This was a good question on PTI. They had half their season and a tournament taken away for the allegations. Should the students whom apply be able to have another year of eligibility if they want to?

I agreed with Tony on this. It's great that the kids involved were cleared legally but I wouldn't allow them an extra year of eligibility.

No...and this I was discussing with my friends who are still within the lacrosse scene, and they made a great point. The NCAA did not take away their season...Duke did...the NCAA had nothing to do with that decision and in turn can probably not even rule on that, let alone actually give them their season back.
Plus, it was in what, March when it happened? They had already played a decent portion of their season if I remember. The rules for medical red-shirt are there...and I believe Duke was past even that barrier of time...so, I highly doubt they get it.
Plus, to add the finality to it...they had a party that they got caught for with a stripper there...granted there was no rape...but, they did something dumb enough to get caught, so they deserved some form of punishment. And I am willing to bet that they school would have made them forfeit a game or two for that anyway. At the very least some players would have been suspended for some games...
Essentially...I am saying it is not the NCAA's fault they lost their season...it is Duke's and the players, and they can't appeal to Duke for an extra year of eligibility. They can sue the school for negligence perhaps...but, that's about it. It may not have hit national news outside the lacrosse world and been a big scandal...but, they shouldn't be rewarded for causing a media spectacle with their idiocy in the first place. EVERY sports team throws huge parties...the smart ones just don't get caught.
Edit: It does suck though...because they were winning the national championship last year no doubt...and then this happened...so, hopefully they can get redemption this year

I was just going to say what Preppy said. Duke cancelled their season, not the NCAA. Therefore, the NCAA owes them nothing more.

was just down at the Final Four, and the guy whose party I attended was at the US Lacrosse meeting and was talking to one of the guys on the committee for these decisions.
He said there is a pretty good chance Duke gets their eligibility for another year...which means that next year they could be returning every starter

I was rooting for Duke today and I won't throw a big fit if they do get another year of eligibility, but I don't think the NCAA owes them anything. I'm pretty indifferent on the issue.

the NCAA is giving them one more year. This is the right call, IMO. The NCAA didnt take away their season, but the kids still got screwed over. It's nice to see them go out on a limb and right a wrong.

Yeah...and now they return every starter from a team that probable should have won it all this year...including the likely Tewaarton Trophy winner in Matt Denowski (who had like 45 goals and 50 assists).
They are going to be DISGUSTING next year

I guess it's good that they are giving the kids another season, but at the same time I think it wasn't their wrong to fix. It was Duke's.
What happens to all of the recruits Duke just brought in and promised PT and scholorships to? They're screwed.
