YEAH!!! Congrats Jessica! Brings me back to when I got my guitar last year, it was such a great feeling and soooo goddamn cool! Even if I suck at playing it, I still look and feel it with admiration. Have fun with it and ROCK ON!

i hate people who start playing guitar just to be cool or to fit in. that pisses me off so much. you should play it because you want to play music. and nothing else. im not saying you did it because of that. but i know alot of people who do. and it pisses me off sooooo much.

the best idea i've heard in years. let's start a band while having a huge orgy with our instruments.

for a second i thought you were suggesting that that's what i had done. i'm glad you stated otherwise. i hate it when people get guitars just to 'be cool' too. 'you should play it because you want to play music' - i could not agree more. why would someone buy a guitar for reasons other than to play music? the whole idea is just...absurd. it's like kids who buy shoes and never wear them. they just want them to be able to say that they have them and to 'look cool'. not to mention they go into convulsions when the damn things get scuffed. i really resent a lot of people. but yes, greg..i actually intend to make use of the instrument. next time you come across someone who bought a guitar just to 'fit in'.... shoot them for me.

and no, to the three of you above me, girl bands are not particularly appealing to me either. but i am one hell of a singer and i am not modest about it. if i were in a band, i would not let the issue of gender get in the way of the quality of our sound. that would be ridiculous. i have an alto voice anyway. (for those of you who are musically stunted, that means my voice is low. i sound close to a guy when i sing. slightly different tone, same basic pitch.)

what are you talking about? i just said 'i sound close to a guy when i sing'. i do not take it as an insult. infact, i would much rather sound like a guy than a girl. i wish my singing voice was more like the typical male's. however, my voice is naturally low. i do not 'try' anything. that is where you insulted me. mistake, dear.

hahahahaha. i understand that greg bothers you and that you have perfectly valid reasons for not liking him, but you have absolutely no grounds to be so hostile toward him. calling him 'fat' a series of times is not going to do anything but maybe give the kid a cut or two on the self-esteem. and i cut back on the discussion of sex weeks ago. that was the rant of rants tonight though, i must give you credit for that one.

I've never heard of Crate, but having a good amp is really important it does wonders for the sound of the guitar. It can make a crappy guitar sound good like mine.

Yea, I know a few kids who did that. And then my one friend who can never be outdone, gets a fucking guitar the week after I get mine. He doesn't play it much anymore. I take lessons tho, so I kick ass at chords and sheet music, but until I'm done I look like I suck, as he's 'shredding on his axe.' God, I hate that term!!!!

i don't own a crate, but a few of my friends do, and i've played on them. they're definately good practice amps but they won't work too well if you plan on playing with a drummer (unless you got one with about 75-100 watts) but i'm guessing that's not really much of a concern now, considering you're just starting.
and getting a strat was definately a good decision, i remember getting my first guitar, it was a piece of shit. it's always easier to learn on a good guitar.

i got my strat for 350 yesterday. and that's a great guitar, definitely a series of steps up from a squire (both are made by fender). i could get up on stage and play it right now and it would be just fine. unlike many guitars people start out with. i was just lucky. thing is, guitar center's having a huge ass sale and the original price was....499 i believe? so i'm not sure if that's within your price range. god knows i wouldn't have been able to get it if it was 500. if nothing else, get a squire. they're decent guitars and good for beginners. you're going to have to upgrade it to a better guitar eventually, but you'd be able to get one for a lot less than 400. the one's here were only 1something but, once again, they were on sale. so i don't know the true pricing. just go to a local guitar vendor and check some stuff out. see what you like.

alright, thanks joe. and i agree that it is easier to learn on a good guitar. it's a better investment also because you don't have to spend money on one, then go out and buy another once you get good enough to need a decent guitar.

Or if you're a begginer start off w/ an acoustic guitar like i did. Remember you get what you pay for so don't waste your money on a Squire like i did when i bougth my first electric guitar.

Im just going to make this clear cause it doesn't seem there are very many serious guitar players here, the guitar is spelled Squier and Fender does not make Squier guitars. Squier makes Squiers. Fender just owns the company.
