Wow..
It's going to be a sad, but expected day when the ataries throw in the towel Juliana theory style. Oh how the great ones fall.

They claimed on myspace that they booked their own tours....bullshit. I emailed them links about venues in those cities and names of booking people. They were ungrateful and rude and only wanted people that would book the actual shows for them. I have lost respect for you Kris Roe. Oh yah, the new cd sucks.

Apparently they're playing the old songs fast again, so it might actually be worth going to these.

love the older stuff (let it burn, blue skies), I can't even get through the 30 second Itunes preview of any of the new songs on the new cd. BORING... I do like seeing them live just for the chance to see Kris play guitar in his messed up style (upside-down right handed guitar).

Hello everyone. We, The Ataris have just posted abunch of new tour dates! In June we will be heading down the east coast into Florida and back up through Georgia. These are all very intimate sized venues that we booked ourselves personally here on our myspace. We will be playing a ton of old songs from our albums "Blue skies.." "end is forever" and "So Long, Astoria" a few of which we have never played live before, so you definitely need to attend! DATES ARE LISTED BELOW!
All shows are ALL AGES as usual.

Everyone on AP is a complete and utter douchebag when it comes to this band. Why? I'm constantly asking myself. Possibly just because half the people here cannot fully comprehend that a band, over the years, slowly begins maturing into a new style. Some like it, some don't. That does not give anyone the right to bash a band, one of which has been there for many of us throughout the highschool years im sure, simply because the music they are making now does not sound like Anywhere But Here or Blue Skies And Broken Hearts... Next 12 Exits. Kris Roe is still a very talented writer, not to mention a decent vocalist. They perform an amazing live show, and too many people won't even step foot inside the venue, simply because they are too closed-fucking minded and think this band is complete shit now.
Not only is that disgusting, but goes to show how ignorant people can be, que all the "break up" and "going nowhere" statements. Just because a band decided to move in a different direction does not give anyone the right to make such harsh and unrealistic comments about them. If you don't like the music, fine. But there is no need to bad-mouth a band that in the past (and present) has made good music that all different kinds of people can appreciate. Not to mention, i can almost gurantee if a new band released Welcome The Night, it would probably be praised as a great effort -- but simply because it was released by The Ataris, does people think it sounds terrible. STOP COMPARING.
Go to their shows and support them - because once you get there, i'm sure you'll realize just how great of a performance they put on.

Book it themselves or not, where they are playing in Charlotte is absurd. The place holds 700 people apparently and is seated. Not to mention it's downtown, so no parking. You think they'd play at least The Milestone

I don't really think that most people are criticizing the band artistically (although they get their fair share of that as well), I think that we're all just lamenting the fact that it's sad this band can't even sell out venues that hold 200 people anymore. It's a shame what happened to the band's popularity, that's all.

it's true though. they were a lot bigger a few years ago. whoever was selling their gold record even said they needed to pay rent. it sucks to see something like that happen to a band that used to have a much bigger fan base.
Why is there so much bashing? I honestly don't get some of you sometimes. Go into a studio and try to come up with songs half as good as even their new stuff and then feel free to post sh*t. But until then learn to respect people who can play a hell of a lot better than you can, even if you don't like it.

i remember being in high school, going to bogarts hours and hours before the show even started and just hanging out hoping to run into kris roe. i was just in high school, my friends and i were all obsessed with the ataris at the time.. and he was so cool and down to earth whenever he saw us.
since then i have been to nearly a dozen ataris shows, and kris has always been more than polite and cool with me or any other fan i have seen him talk with.
BUT! those times are deadsies.
cause no matter how awesome and nice kris roe was, that doesnt eliminate the fact they just arent the ataris anymore... kid napp, big mike davenport, and kris roe will always be the three headed heart that is the ataris.
now.. they're just some coffee shop train ride rainy day lame stuff that just doesnt agree with me.... sigh.
but hey, as fall out boy so elegantly puts it (including the vowels.) .. thanks for the memories?

do you people not remember kris going out solo acoustic and then kris and john went out together. they do book their own tours. and if you have EVER been on tour and had to book something then you would know that it is MUCH easier to go through a promoter than to talk to venues. learn how the game is played. i for one am glad they are playing small shows again. its a fresh start on a new thing.

Kris Roe and the Ataris obviously don't care about "how big they were" or "playing to huge crowds". Kris Roe could have easily written another catchy pop punk album instead of what ended up being the Welcome the night album and made a lot of money from it and still sold out large venues, but instead he wrote the album he wanted to write, influenced by the music and bands that he is into these days, as a 30 year old man and not a 21 year old pop punker.
He took a risk and a chance and probably hoped that his fans would have accepted the new style of the Ataris, but unfortunately it looks like he did actually lose a great deal of his fan base.
I am a fan of the old Ataris and did not like Welcome the Night and when I saw them play live recently, they played maybe 2 or 3 old songs and completely restructured them to make them sound kind of what their new style is.
With that being said, I think it is honorable of Kris to take a chance and follow what he wanted to do instead of just writing the album that everyone expected him to make.

oh wow, see you got offended, why?
I dont care how you fucking say it....this is NOT the ataris. listen to his voice! that is not natural and fuck evolving, thats just plain pathetic.
I'll go listen to my shitty HC music, but the fact remains (and you being from GA and knowing) that Norma Jean can sell out just about anywhere around there except the amphitheater.....the ataris cant sell out the Circle K!
I grew up on this band, hell, I have an original pressing of the blue skies vinyl on my wall so its ok for you to harshly defend the band, but dont lie to yourself.
7 years ago I remember practicing San Dimas on guitar for HOURS hoping I would get picked to play it with them, I didn't, but I jumped on stage and clinched on the Kris and sang half of the 2nd verse before getting destroyed by security.
I loved this band, but they have gone to shits.

Oh, I could care less about how many seats either band sells. I am proud that you grew up listening to the Ataris - it increases your "cred" in this aspect, I suppose. I could care less what other people think of them, I thought the album was better than most band's best albums.
On Norma Jean, yes, they can sell out pretty much anywhere, so everyone can enjoy their open c chords for an hour and a half. Honestly, the shit's B-O-R-I-N-G. I pretty much just made the comment because I knew you'd get riled up. Mission accomplished.

Fuck cred. We actually do enjoy the open C chords by the way. I'm glad you took time to look up the chords just so you could put it in this comment. And as much as I loved the Ataris before WTN, Norma Jean puts on a hell of a better show than the Ataris ever did.
Kris Roe is pathetic. He cheats on his wife, loses her. Kicks everyone out of the band, makes ashitty cd. Now they are handing free tickets out at Hanson shows?
PATHETIC.

I don't need to look up the chords to know what they are; open C is quite recognizable to any real musician. Slide show of irrelevant pictures + Going blackface + Playing 3rd Grade Music while jumping around = Norma Jean Live.
