I did a search and came with little back of relevance, so I figured I'd start a thread.
I know quite a few people on here enjoy Mike Kinsella's acoustic project, Owen. after being introduced to it earlier this year, I finally get to see him live for free here at school. his lyrics are some of the best around, and his voice is catchy, imo. Anybody else enjoy?
Also, i haven't really listened to some of his other projects aside from American Football. Any good songs from the other groups anybody want to recommend to me?
and yes, i am a big fan of mike. I do precieve is one of my favorite albums.
and if you want other groups, try The One Up Downstairs, it's Mike's short lived band before American Football. They only released a 3 song EP.
but if you want Tim recomendations, I can give you a lot. but I don't know if you're a fan or not

I like Owen a lot. And i'm seeing them soon.
im sure i'll get to talk to him. my friend has met and hung out with mike a few times (he even gave him his last bike hoodie). i'll tell him to look out for my boy ben from the uk, haha.
i think my favorite song is breaking away. the lyrics are somewhat funny at parts, and well thought out.

so i just saw mike play owen songs. it was amazing. one of his strings broke, so he grabbed the guys guitar that went on right before him and tried to tune it. it snapped a string as well.
that may sound shitty, but...
mike then hooks up that guys electric guitar, and played a few owen songs on that. his voice was amazing, and his picking had very few flaws (it was outside and humid as hell so of course he'll misplay a few times). anybody who has not seen him, i urge to do so.
on a side note, kevin devine was there and sounded amazing as well. another guy i had never heard of, who goes by the heligoats, nearly stole the show. he is easily the funniest musician i have ever seen, and his songs were pretty good as well.

Owen, American Football, and The One Up Downstairs are all great...I can't really get into Cap'n Jazz and I've never listened to Joan of Arc or Owls yet
if you can't get into cap'n jazz, you don't know music

If you thought Chris Otepka (the heligoats) was funny all by himself, you would have LOVED Troubled Hubble (http://www.troubledhubble.com). They were the greatest band that has ever existed. Not because of their music (I'm not saying that their music is bad, because it isn't), but because of everything else about the band. Every member of that band is absolutely amazing. Their live shows can't be matched by any other band. They were always so much fun and hilarious. Someone posted a live song called 'Cereal' on a myspace page that will give you just a taste of what their shows were like: http://myspace.com/thubble. When they played their final show, fans from about 13 states came to see it. Such a sad day.
Oh, and stop by the heligoats myspace and let Chris know what you thought of him. He will absolutely love you for it. http://www.myspace.com/theheligoats

Cap'n Jazz... ahhhhhhhhhhhh.
every time you listen to this band it's like taking yourself back to childhood, in indie punk form.
