Mark Cuban is starting a 'rival' to the NFL that will be playing on Friday nights, and will have eight teams.

I can only think of seven cities that he'll be able to put teams in that won't directly compete with the NFL, and still draw a very good crowd: LA, Las Vegas, San Antonio, Birmingham (Alabama), Orlando, Portland (Ore.) and Omaha, Nebraska.
Obviously there is no East Coast team, which imo the league will need to survive. I think it will have to directly compete with the NFL in New York, New England and the Maryland/Virgina area in order to keep national interest in the league.

As much as I feel we need a Professional Football team in L.A., i really don't think I'd watch that..

I think that it can work in the right markets and done very carefully. If the league is done in the spring, I think it'll do fine, assuming it has a national TV contract (one better than versus) and decent play. If the NFL Schedule is the lead story on Sportscenter at the beginning of baseball season and the end of the NBA regular season, then maybe football can become a year round sport.

theres no way itll work and be competitive.
players do not want to go play in some new league that will supposedly "compete" with the NFL. they want to play in the NFL period.

For the most part I agree, but money talks. Theres a reason Cuban is looking for other billionaires.

I would rather watch mid-major college teams play on friday nights. Then again, I'm not overly interested in the NFL or pro football anyways.

Haha. I watch on sundays but that's because there's nothing else that's on during football time. ESPN's over saturated me with NFL coverage to the point where they've taken something I've been moderately interested in and turned it into a pro sport that I don't care about. If there were any college football game on during the Super Bowl, I'd rather watch the college game.

I watch the occasional Friday night CFL game, but another football league doesnt interest me one bit. Although the NFL doesnt interest me either.
They might as play these games in a prison yard, because that's the type of players that will be in this league of Cuban's probably. Just have the biggest prisons in the United States sponsor and represent it and you got yourself a great league of misfits.

i will be emailing mark cuban trying to get a job for this league, everyday until he responds.
and if any of you take my idea, ill come fuck your mother in the ass, raw.

never gonna work. i'd rather watch college games.
but for the northeast team, i'd suggest hartford. smack in between NY and NE.
and mht, that would actually be a ridiculous idea, national prison football league. too hard to do, but imagine what it would be like. so brutal, fuckers getting shanked and shit.

i could definitely see a team in either hartford or boston.
hartford has UCONNS stadium, and the boston team could play at Harvards field, or Fenway if they really had to.

ha, our football team doesn't deserve a stadium that nice.

there is enough football out there already. you got ncaa, afl, nfl europe and nfl. nfl will always be the premiere league and all other leagues will just have second rate players. yea, money talks, but there is also the prestigiousness of the nfl and knowing you are competing with the best.

hmm, if their is no drug testing for weed, ricky williams just found a new best friend.
After thinking about it more, Friday night is for going out and drinking. People could always go and tailgate, then drink at the game, but that would probably be too expensive for a bi-weekly thing.
No one really stays home to watch sports on Fridays unless it's a really important game, a big rivalry or the playoffs, which makes me tend to think this league will fail, since TV revenue is everything.

Gosh no. I'd much rather hit the bars up on fridays than stay in and watch mediocre football. Not to mention most of America will be out at their towns high school football games.

remember the XFL? god what a flop. i really cant see this getting any better than that, or arena football. arena football has boomed lately, but its still struggling.

I'd probably watch it to see what it was like. I don't think anybody thinks it's going to overtake the NFL, but it could be interesting for former college stars that were dissed by scouts in the draft.

i really think most of you in this thread just havent read any indepth articles about how the league is being developed, based on some of your comments.
bringing up any comparison to the XFL or AFL or NFL Europe is completely wtihout merit, because you dont take into consideration the minimal amount of salaries these guys made.
think of it like the USFL but with better financial organization/strategies.

I would watch it I dont think he is trying to rival the nfl at all.I do have a huge urge to watch football all the time I hate the offseason and the AFL is garbage
I'd give it a chance. I'm having a tough time getting completely on board with the AFL.
