View Full Version : Midi Files .. Keep Um Or Loose Um?
Jason Tate

The staff and I are trying to decide if we should keep the midi files (http://www.absolutepunk.net/gallery/browseimages.php?c=5&userid=) in our gallery. They seem kind of pointless with all the new fangled ring-tones available out there. We thought we'd let you, the user, decide for sure though. So there's a poll in the replies - let us know what you think (and leave comments). Thanks!

EDIT: Thank you though. And thanks for my prestigiousness kicking in tonight.

They're corny, but I mean that in an endearing way. Keep um (unless you need the extra meg of space they take up).

MIDI is a fucking joke and a dying technology in the recording industry. I say ditch the shit.

I never used 'em. Save the space and ditch them.
I like MIDI's. Not to listen to, but it is good to "study" a song because we can check out how they were composed. For me that like to "play" with programs like FruityLoops, Sonar, it's useful. Since they don't take too much space you can keep it. I didn't even know this site had a MIDI section, now I'm gonna download some... maybe they won't be avaiable for too much time :-|

ditto to everything just said
why not keep them? they take up basically no space on your server and sometimes they are fun to listen to. and i think midis are going to come back in style as cell phone ringers kind of like a retro ring tone style.
there's really no reason to get rid of them.

They're cool to listen to actually, but lose em anyway. They're not worth having around, no one's going to use them.
Days From The Phoenix sounds straight out of a video game & Logan To Government Center sounds really sweet.

i never knew they existed on this site in the first place.
keep em for a little while to let whoever wants em get their last chance to download.
after that, erase!
haha, i know where you got these files cuz i checked the millencolin - penguins and polarbears song and it happens to be the one i made
but yes, give the people who want these a chance to get them and then if you're really looking to trash them, go ahead

MIDI is a dyung technology, or MIDI is the way a shit-ton of music is exclusively made (almost all of rap, electronica, dance, techno, etc.)? Not everything on every record you hear is a mic'd instrument... besides, think of how many producers use samples?
MIDI is actually a blooming technology in the recording industry...
Keep the files, I didn't know they were here, I'm having a dandy little time importing them into Logic and playing with them.

thank you, that kids retarded, MIDI ia absolutely huge in the recording industry, especially in any urban music like you said, it allows you to play any instrument from your computer, and i can garantee its probably on some of your favorite records, wonder how some smaller lower budget bands have orchestral instruments and strings in there songs, its MIDI
enough of that ranting, about the ringtones, never heard of it, and doesnt sound like it would be a huge loss, but then again how much space could they possibly take up
