I just started getting into it again; I'm an all things Batman guy, btw, haha.
Edit: This was suppose to quote TJ.

I bought a whole bunch of graphic novels from this tiny comic book store in town and when I went there the first time they didn't have it, so they ordered it for me.

Omg. Are you kidding me? The Long Halloween may be the best Batman story ever. Hush was a one off, good but scattershot story that couldn't even compare to the genius of Halloween.
In my opinion, the only thing that is extremely close is Batman: Year One, of course this is coming from a guy who is a Dark Knights Returns fan, but believes it is slightly overrated.
The point is, enjoy it. It is a great read.

i thought Watchmen was a huge disapointment and not really worth buying it. wish i waiting for my friend to get his and read his... now we are both disapointed. overated and poorly aged (though understandable revolutionary for its time)

this is probably a really stupid question, but like do i need to read the years and years of batman comics to get this? or can all the separate stories be read themselves without any background info needed?

Your good to get into this.
some stories can be wrapped in continuity and really confusing. But some stories are made to just jump into

So, the short answer is no.

I'm jealous, the Borders near me didn't have it when I went there last week. I was pissed, I've been wanting to pick this one up for a while.

Don't forget to get Dark Victory after you finish this. It's Loeb/Sale's follow up to the Long Halloween.

Watchmen is timeless. Shut up.
