Ok, what is everyone's favorite band from the 70's/80's? My pick will have to be:

all you even need to hear the rest of this thread is Pink Floyd. No one else is even fucking close.
"rock" is too broad of a genre, it covers everything from classic rock to punk to metal to some blues, and so forth and 70's/80's is a pretty broad category too, but if given one choice, considering you left the door open for all forms of rock, i'd say; Dead Kennedys

they were more a band of the 60's but since their best work was in '71, I'll say The Who.
the who, the eagles, boston, kansas, jefferson airplane/starfish, pink floyd, styx and a whole shit load others .. idk when they were from but they all kick ass!

Duh... Skynyrd. Also, Rush, Iron Maiden, Queen, Def Leppard, AC/DC, Metallica, Damn Yankees, Tesla, Cinderella, Poison, White Snake, Van Halen, Ted Nugent, Foghat, Deep Purple, Warrant, Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Motley Crew, Quiet Riot, and The Scorpions. My dad listens to this stuff everyday.

Umm and yes, that Rise Against cover is probably one of my favourite punk covers out there. Along with "Baby Got Back" by Agent Felix. I've been listening to Rise Against alot lately.
rise against fuckin rocks .. and yes that cover is one of the best i think too .. i also really like thrice's send me an angel cover .. but that's because there's nothing better in the world than thrice =D
