"The thing that i love the most of everything in the world is how people underestimate me" says Angels and Airwaves ceo Tom Delonge in a rare moment away from plotting world domination. Think we're kidding?
" I came out with We Dont Need To Whisper saying I wanted to revolutionize rock and everyone thought i meant just with that record". he says, laughing somewhat diabolically. "They had no idea." True, Delonge has been conjuring the follow-up to last years AVA debut at his Never Pants Ranch studio, but thats just the tip of a very misunderstood iceberg.
"My band is part of a business that does alot of things," he says, "When we launch this record, we'll also be launching a major piece of technology that will revolutionize mainstream America." Although he's stingy with the details, Delonge hints the mystery might be "some type of [computer] operating system." He's much more generous with the specs of i-empire--the band's sophomore album (featuring between 11 and 13 songs) tentatively dropping this September.
"This record is 10 times what the first record was in energy and anthemic nature," he says, "It's more beautiful, atmospheric and artistic--Whisper with a boost of adrenaline," Lyrically, the theme shouldn't be a shock.
"It's about building your own utopia," he says, with specific instructions for an ideal listening experience. "I'd love for people to go to the top of a mountain, open their car doors and blast this shit as they look at the city beneath, pretenting it's theirs."
