The Mars Volta got like best ratings in almost every music magazine, I haven't heard it yet though. It's meant to be really really good, but I'm kind of suspicious... I liked At The Drive-In a lot and The Mars Volta seem to be nothing like that, I've been told they are even less catchier than ATDI

The Mars Votla is very much a departure from ATDI. But I actually have come to prefer TMV. The way they blend jazz, psychadelia, prog, hardcore, and good old fashioned rock is just amazing.
It isnt neccisarily catchy. But a hook is not the same as a really good piece of music. I hope you look past "catchiness" when examining the quality of a song.

There's nothing wrong with weirdness or uncatchiness, I like The Blood Brothers and Every Time I Die either and especially ETID are far from being catchy, melodic whatsoever. Yet I don't like bands that compose complex songs just for the sake of being different from other contemporaries or have like 6 mins songs on their albums. My perfect song has heavy screaming parts, melodic chorus, acoustic bridge and doesn't exceed the 3 mins mark

You said it best brother! Blink have never achieved this level of quality again and their forthcoming album is going to be an even bigger shitload of poppy songs than TOYPAJ, almost Emo! No surprise they're going on tour with Taking Back Sunday

I see what you mean. I am a fan of FATA, ETID, Me Without You, and other bands of similar style.
Unfortunately, if your not a fan of the longer, complex songs, you may not like the Volta. The longest track clocks in at just under thirteen minutes. But listening to the CD I enjoy the music too much to notice the length.
The complexities and trippy effects only serve to bolster the CD. I really feel the inventiveness is the strength of the group. But I can understand if that's not your thing.

By the way, any clue when the new Finch record is expected to come out? I solely know that there'll be a new video soon, it's "Worms Of The Earth". Shitty song though... If the entire album is gonna sound that way, Finch gonna have minus one fan

"Worms of the Earth" is an amazing song. I don't understand why people are so pissed off about it. It's easily better than 90% of the pop-core stuff on WIITB. Poppy songs like "Letters to You" with refrains like "I want you to know that I miss you, I miss you, I miss you so..." don't gain my respect. But a healthy dosage of screaming, a more daring song structure, and a bold political stance do.

I don't like the way the song's recorded, the vocals come out very muddy plus the instruments are too loud to properly understand the lyrics. So it's about politics you said? The song strongly reminds me of Glassjaw, one of my fav. bands or even Incubus back in 96 or 97, when they had some more drive

I saw them live. They were amazing. They were touring with Spitalfield, The Goodwill, The Bled with openers The Actual. First time I've heard any of their stuff and it's pretty good. I kinda got mixed up between their guitarist and Mark Rose of Spitalfield because they looked alike.
