View Full Version : Jim Rome
He comes up from time to time in here and there seems to be a lot of mixed opinions about him. Personally I like him. Though most of his takes are just scripted (well Im guessing because theyre identical on Jim Rome is burning) I think theyre funny as hell. Hes very entertaining, great interviewer and the clones are usually funny if they stay in the bounds of good taste.
Like him or hate him? Give me your thoughts.

don't like him. I used to hate Colin Cowherd too but as of late have found myself agreeing with him more and more. I listen to sports radio more than music as of late

well, his takes shouldn't differ from radio to tv...that would make him a flip flopper.
but i love him. listen to him as much as possible. Sometimes i dont like his opinions on certain things...but nobody can agree on everything.
He's funny, he's the only sports talk host that can keep my attention, he's the only one that seems to treat the guests with real respect (besides Jim Everett), and he's the only one that wont laugh in your face at the word "hockey".

I really like Jim Rome on the radio, but can't stand watching Jim Rome is Burning.

Sorry dude but his takes on european soccer are hilarious. He used to be that way with nascar and he completely flip flopped when it gained mainstream notariety, now he talks like hes an expert and does nothing but praise it when he dosent know shit about it.
I guess my point is, one day soccer might become popular and if it does, he'll knock it off.
Probably wont though.

haha he's always saying. well looks like another soccer player is getting carted off the field for a kick to the shin. Everytime one of these guys coughs they get a stretcher brought in for them and are carted off to the hospital.
but my favirote:
my son came home the other day from soccer practice and said, dad I dont wanna play soccer anymomre, its not fun, i dont like it.
Usually I would tell him something like, quitters never win, or just hang in there for the rest of the season, but this time was different, this is what i told him.
good, im glad to hear it.

I dont mind him but its so frustrating to listen to his show though because he wont ever let things go, the short takes, and constant commercials.
I think he is funny though, every once in awhile he hits gold.

That's my exact problem with him. THAT NEVER HAPPENS. Most football players are very tough. A player (Hossam Ghaly) on the club (Tottenham Hotspur) I follow got kicked in the face earlier this season. He broke his nose and lost three teeth. He spent a few minutes on the sidelines, changed his jersey and finished the game.
I very much doubt that Jim Rome has ever watched a competitive football match. He's the epitimy of ESPN. All he watches are highlight shows of players diving. Is diving a problem in football? Yes, but it doesn't over shadow all of the sport's bright spots as Rome would make it look.
now for your favorite:
that just shows that Rome hates the sport so much he has no problem with his son quitting his team. I doubt his son would have decided to quit so easily the team if father and son kicked the ball around . . .

And I'm pro Jime Rome. I think he and I are pretty similiar in our sports opinions and he cracks me up.

I'm not sure where you're from, but its pretty unsusual for father and son to "kick the ball around", at least as far as I know.
and yea, hes probably watched a few world cup matches, i tihnk he made that comment during one of the games actually. but yea, that seems like flopping to me, otherwise, thats prety bad.

Likewise. But whatever, I'll post another one...this time Caliendo (as Rome) interviews an exaggerated Al Davis. He drops a few good one-liners.

As to the real Jim Rome, I don't hate him, namely because I haven't seen/heard a ton of his stuff. Granted, he is a douche, but he does tell it like it is at times.

I find Colin Cowherd to be generally the least informed sports talk radio host...give him college football, he's golden, give him anything else, he's a hack. The show where I officially vowed to never turn him back on was when it was I believe Final Four weekend for basketball, NBA and NHL seasons were in full swing, and the Masters was coming up...and he led off making the whole first hour a discussion of someobody's pre-season College Football poll...5 months before the season even starts

cowherd admits that he's a college football guy though. he'll never deny that.
i used to loathe him, but i'm starting to tolerate him more.
he just talks during his show. doesn't matter about what. he just goes on tangents. he'll go entire segments without even mentioning sports. sometimes it can be somewhat entertaining.
he's a complete pompous ass though. dude's had a silver spoon in his mouth his entire life and has no understanding of people who haven't.
i think he's a pompous ass that doesn't really have an opinion other than what the sheepshaggers at espn tell him is mainstream, or whatever.

Do you realize he isn't nationally syndicated as a radio talk host (his primary job) for ESPN....instead I believe he is Fox Sports actually...or the like

yea, i dont know i your talking about cowheard or rome, but if you're talking about rome i think youre pretty off base.
just all the soccer regulars hate him because he hates soccer, but i hate espn for the same reason regarding hockey so i get that. though espn just ignores hockey, rome is vicious towards soccer.
manual buzzer+romes micheal jackson impersonation ftw.
