High School really isn't the best years of everybody's lives. People always put the past on a pedestal, its like the minor threat song Salad Days "You call them salad days... I call it a fucking lie". When I was in graduation, a person behind me said "You know, if I could, I'd do it all over again". I wouldn't. They also said they would actually do their work, make better choices, etc. Really, its all to the individual person.
Don't worry if you don't have a prom date or anything, it used to be some big, life changing event, supposedly, but all it is now is a more expensive school dance. Don't go to it with someone you don't like, don't keep dating someone so you can have a date(one of my ex's ex's did this to her), just treat it as another school dance. Its more expensive and fancier, yes, but its still just a fucking school dance. Guys expect to get laid more than usual, but everything else is the same.

It does have a connecting storyline, with the exception of a few episodes. Especially the last few. Its kind of what made it interesting, there was an overlying storyline(Spike's), but every single episode wasn't directly tied to it, and each character had their own storyline (Except Ed. Ed had no life). Kept it from getting stale and repetitive like DBZ eventually does, very non-formulaic.

Hmm.. really? My friend d/led and sent me the entire series, and it seemed like there was a different villain and all for every single episode.

Spike's character story is definitely the over arching plot. The intro to the first episode isn't even explained until the 25th episode. Its definitely easier to appreciate the series as a whole after viewing it once (I've watched it twice), as some of what seems relatively unimportant becomes more significant.
There is a different villain for the majority of the episodes, but I don't really think of that as an issue, just a difference. And Vicious is the recurring villain, if you must think in terms of one. Even though he only shows up in 4 (5?) episodes, he is represented in most of them by the syndicate. The reason I liked it so much is it didn't focus on a "OMGWTF cool" factor for the fights (most of which are as close to realism as anime will ever come), as telling meaningful stories. Almost every episode has an important theme and story, some deeper than others, and others much funnier. It also had no issues with finishing a story when it was done, rather than dragging it out.
Yes, a few of the episodes drag (especially in the middle of the series, 2 or 3 are stacked next to each other), but I can't say I didn't enjoy every one of them.

And uh, the only character who joins from a previous episode is faye. And I wasn't complaining, because she was hot and entertaining. From the sound of it you stopped watching around episode 11... and 12 (Jupiter Jazz) is where the series having an overall story finally becomes clear.

Edit: And did you know there is a movie? Its an interesting movie, but totally unattached to the series. The main villain in the movie is the poster child for all things emo, but it made me think a lot.

The issue with DBZ is that its very formulaic. Before the formula was obvious (pre super-saiyan / freeza), it was an entertaining show. After that, with a new "level" of super saiyan, it became really idiotic to watch it. There'd be a new villain who was somehow even stronger than was possible before, then somehow the main chars would become stronger than that.... etc.

Ed joined at the end of that episode. She was never the villain. I can easily guess what happened. After Jupiter Jazz, what with the whole meeting of Spike and Vicious and all the blood everywhere, it seems like it should be over. But its not, and then you get hammered with a few sub par episodes, then you run into the character episodes, which you'll only like IF you like the character. For me, Faye's was decent, Jet's was boring (b/c Jet is a pretty generic character), and they also bizarrely placed really light hearted episodes right after extraordinarily dark and depressing ones. Watching the last half in one sitting is a bad idea IMO, but its very doable with the first half.

Oh, and the movie is, if anything, better than the series. It is similarly disjointed, but is like one of the high quality episodes if it lasted for 2 hours and was even deeper.
Edit: I got jupiter jazz and ballad of fallen angels mixed up, somehow. But what I said is still applicable.

Yeah. I think Naruto is overrated even worse than Inuyasha.

i only have a few yuyu hakusho episodes on vhs. by the time i went to by them..they were the only thing left in vhs form. i was basically forced into geting a dvd player, b/c they've just stoped making vhs, altogether. kinda sad.
