Zach provided an update (http://bbs.jimmyeatworld.com/showthread.php?t=17028) on Jimmy Eat World (http://www.absolutepunk.net/jimmyeatworld)'s upcoming summer tour (http://www.absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?t=244206) and what you can expect for the shows.
hey everyone, thanks for the interest in the upcoming dates. we can't wait to get out there and play some proper, headlining shows for you guys. there are a few questions as to what these upcoming dates will be like and I'd like to clarify a little bit so everyone knows what's up. these summer U.S. dates are going to be different than the shows we've played in the past. these shows will include mostly acoustic and mellow material from our past 5 albums and also some rarities. the material won't be exclusively acoustic, but it also won't be full on rock. we wanted to do a short run in the U.S. that gives us a chance to play some songs we've never played and also take a more musical approach to the songs we've just normally blasted rock style.

why don't they ever do something like this on a European tour...? Well, for that matter, why don't they do any kind of European tour... :-)

They're going to hear a lot of singing from the crowd! It'll be a good ol time, shame I can't see it.

Ditto. Intimate venue, more personal show? I am beyond sold.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see them do a full-out rock show in a place like First Ave, but they've got so much good material, it'll be really cool to see them focus on their standout acoustic/mellow pieces that often get lost in their other shows (like "Hear You Me" or "23").

I cannot WAIT for this show.

This has the potential to be really, really good, or a huge disaster. My vote is for good. Sing alongs to acoustic are alright when scattered throughout a set, but they become really annoying when its an entire set and the fans overpower the band and vocals enough that you can't even tell if its the actual band or a cover band at a local bar(see Dashboard's MTV Unplugged session, I think I made it through 2 songs before I said fuck it and just put in Swiss Army and PYHCTFTM)

I wonder if they will do some acoustic versions of harder songs like Bleed American, Just Tonight, and Pain or just the songs that are already more mellow from the albums. Im not gonna be able to get to one of these shows since Im already springing for a trip to Minneapolis to see Silverchair and Kansas City to see Modest Mouse in a 2 day period, but I would be pretty pissed if I traveled a decent distance and not get to hear Bleed American.

Hearing Kill live would probably be the most anticipated song that I would expect them to do on this tour. Im still not sure why that was never released as a single....it had the potential to be bigger than "The Middle" and "Sweetness" combined. I certainly would have rather had it than "Work" which is probably my least favorite song JEW has released as a single.
