i went with yes. sure, his offensive numbers are nothing special, but he is one of the best defensive infielders in the history of the game and i think he deserves to get in

I'm going with NO on this one...mostly out of my pure hatred for The Giants....

BUT...also just because the HoF doesn't seem to recognize defensive achievements nearly as often as offensive achievements.

yeah i agree...his defense more than makes up for his offense.

His defense would get him in. His offense isn't bad, but he's straight up ridiculous in the field.

2500 hits seems to be the new bench mark these days so he has that, but I usually use the most scientific way possible to decide on this stuff....when you think of the person, does he scream HoF?

Vizquel does not for me.

I remember when he played for Cleveland back in the day... fun times.

i say yes. his average might not be the best but they guy is the best defender out there... that should get him some recognition. he is also getting really close to the 3k hit mark. if he plays long enough to get to it i say he is a shoe in

I'd say its perfect reasoning...for a DODGER fan :) If he would have played for the Indians his whole career he would be a sure thing for the Hall ;)

I even have my reservations about Jeff Kent making it to the hall due to his brief stint with the Giants...LOL

I say yes.

Vizquel will go in as an Indian

AND Kent will go in as a DODGER, because we all know that his three totally average seasons as the 2nd basemen for the Dodgers is all that really counts ;)

Harold Baines, Bill Buckner, and Vada Pinson all beg to differ.

sad, isn't it? that's the case in every sport, unfortunately.

Yes, for the same reason Ozzie Smith deserves it as well.

Yep, Omar Vizquel is basically Ozzy Smith with better offense.

he should get in imo. but he wont be first ballot. nor would i be surprised if he didnt get in at all.

i personally think he deserves it 100%, but hes got a lot of things against him...

the recent rise of amazing SS hitters kind of belittles offensive numbers. HoF is subjective, and voted on, and this could defintely hinder his chances if some voters fail to realize that the slugging SS is a relatively new concept.

hed also retire with a ridiculously good class, which would make his first-ballot chances extremely low. bonds, clemens, maddux, biggio, etc?

i dont think he's ever even been the best person on his team at any point in his career, so he doesnt really have the wow aspect that would help his case to get in. i don't even think hes been the best SS in any year in his career either -- theres always been someone better.

hes never gotten close to being mvp either, and has only been in 3 all-star games.
dave concepcion is not in the HoF, and he is arguably on the same level as omar in almost every catergory.

i LOVE omar and im a die-hard giants fan, but theres a lot of things against him.

should he be in? imo yes.
will he get in? i have no idea.

omar's fielding % is better, but theres a lot more to it.

ozzie has played only 60 or so more games than omar, but has thrown out more than 1400 more runners.

also, ozzies range is ridiculous. look at his total chances he was probably scored some errors on some plays that most SS (including omar) would not even make a play for.

ozzie is an 11/10 defensively, and omar is 10/10. imo.

both amazing players, and i would take either on my team (but ozzie first).
