I hate it when this happens. It always makes me feel like I should empty my savings account to help them out because I feel so bad. What worries me most, though, is I can't help but think what could happen or what could've happened if someone in the band comes out and catches the criminal(s) in the act of stealing the trailer/van/gear, if the criminals have the audacity to violently attack and injure the band member. As bad as I feel for bands being robbed, I'm always thankful that at least they're safe.

Quietdrive were also victims of Detroit's sleaziest. Unfortunately, it's a reality that bands have to face: thieves have realized that vans with trailers represent a quick target with a large cash value. In our instance, it happened in a suburb just outside Atlanta (as Jarrett said frequently, "Why steal from the crappy neighborhood when all the nice stuff's in the suburbs?"). We recovered the van and trailer. But the equipment? Gone and presumably hocked.

Note to bands: take down all your serial numbers on your equipment, look into insurance for it, and exercise your best discretion. It's all you can do.

And to Lovedrug, who I haven't met or anything, my sincerest condolences. Hope it doesn't stop you from taking over the world.

Southgate, Michigan is a half hour out of Detroit when you take I-75 South down that way. This stuff honestly rarely happens around here anymore. I'm going to be making a few phone calls and other things to see if anyone have seen anything. I literally live 5 minutes from this.

This wouldnt happen if bands would take necessary precautions. Wheel Locks, steering colum locks, decent trailer locks. Sure it costs some money now, and takes some time when all you want to do is shower and sleep, but I would sure as hell like to have a rig to get in the next day.

Although, I do remember when dont look downs shit was yanked Jesse's dad, who is the Gov of PA got on the phone to the Gov of WA and in no time, they got their stuff back. Ahhh the powers that be.

it might take an hour if you're on a bike... its right next to detroit... and what everyone needs to understand is that this shit only happens when bands stay near detroit. This never happens anywhere else in michigan... a lot of the people that read this site are in bands ... if you play detroit don't stay in a hotel with in an hour of the city... go to toledo, ann arbor, jackson, lansing, kalamazoo... get out of town and your stuff will be there in the morning.

Shit.

Shit.

ann arbor is easily within an hour.
toledo is in ohio - not a michigan tour date.
jackson has the l(formerly) argest four walled prison in the world, and no people.
lansing is too far away from the 'burbs - usually bands hit around here and then the east side of the state - i.e. detroit - i actually could have seen lovedrug twice in a couple days once here and once around detroit.
Also, as many people have pointed out, those don't usually happen IN detroit. Pontiac was where MWC lost there stuff i believe.
k-zoo is too small.

Bands play detroit because their shows usually sell out - detroit area is one of the top 10 markets in the US.

No offense to anyone out there. But while on tour I make sure we never sleep in a city. Every city has crime, Memphis, Philly/Camden, and more. All areas have crime...play the city, hang for a bit, then start moving on and stay off the interstate somewhere.

I work in the music industry in Detroit, and while there's something to be said for the crime and such here, some simple precautions could have saved the day for Lovedrug.

First, as Irving said earlier, stay farther away from Detroit. They had the day off before playing Grand Rapids the next day. I live in Howell, 45 minutes west of Detroit, in a beautiful suburban town w/ almost no crime.

I was at the show, and they were probably followed from the venue. A few criminals have probably figured out that if they hang outside St. Andrews, and follow a band's van, they can probably score an easy theft. That sucks that that's the case, but I guess it's all part of the reality of playing shows in big cities. Someone also talked earlier about steering wheel locks, wheel locks, better locks for the trailers. Insurance.

Lovedrug put on a very good show, seemed to be very nice guys, and did not deserve this at all. However, they should have been more prepared to deal w/ the realities of playing in major cities.

And Detroiters, you're going to have to rise up above this to have bands come to our city. We all know that bands regularly skip our city on tour. What are we going to do to fix that?

First off, they played Indy the next day. They woke up yesterday to find their shit stolen, rented a car to continue to finish the tour and drove to Indy to play last night.

Yes, maybe they should have stayed further away from Detroit but seriously, its shit that a band has to worry about that so much in that city when it doesn't happen nearly as much in other places. Also really they definitly need a bunch of people telling them how they should have handled things AFTER it all happened. Gee, I think they get it.

I saw them last night at the Irving In Indy and anyone who was wondering if they are finishing the tour, they are. Sparta has agreed to let them use their equipment and they have nothing but a tip jar to help them pay for that rental car and such so take a couple dollars and help them out. They put on a great show and whatever precautions that should have been taken (which makes not a damn bit of difference now) they could really use a little support.

apparently.. everything's been found:

Lovedrug's van and trailer were stolen this weekend from the hotel where they were staying in Detroit. The van was found this morning burnt to a crisp.

The band lost everything they owned: instruments, computers, clothes, ipods, and anything else you could imagine. This is a really hard time for them right now but they are still continuing to play the shows on this tour and have a positive attitude.

Please help them out any way you can. Donations to the band can be sent through PayPal via info@lovedrugmusic.com
