Steve Henderson

As a follow-up to these (http://www.absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?t=245488) posts (http://www.absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?t=245844), this morning Lovedrug (http://www.absolutepunk.net/lovedrug)'s stolen van was found burnt to a crisp. The band lost everything, but they are continuing to play on their current tour and are trying to stay positive. If you can help the band out with a donation, please do so here (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_xclick&business=info%40bradstreetentertain ment%2ecom&item_name=Thieving%20from%20Lovedru g&no_shipping=0&no_note=1&tax=0&currency_code=USD&lc=US&bn=PP%2dDonationsBF&charset=UTF%2d8).

what i dont get is why bands dont take insurance out on there van, trailer, and equipment. and if they do have it, why putting up the donation things?

because insurance takes time to process all of that. they have to start from scratch. I'm sure they had personal things/merch that they can't really put insurance on either. besides this is pathetic that someone is that low to go and set fire to this. that is going to be a lot harder to deal with than just stolen gear.

Because even if they are insured, until insurance comes through, they are paying to rent a car so they can tour for THE FANS, and they cannot make $ off merch, they are borrowing equipment, etc. Need any more reasons? I HARDLY think they are trying to profit off this. Jesus.

this is horrible - i've met this band and they are very good people from what i could tell...

bands need full time security with these trailers... it seems like 3 trailers a week are stolen anymore. It's time to add some extra precautions somehow, i don't know exactly what the solution is.. but seriously, this is getting ridiculous.. it's obvious these assholes are out there waiting to take these things, it's time somebody speaks up about it and brings them down.

yeah it sucks that stuff like that happened - but seriously... this happens all the time, at LEAST once a month on this site. if you don't invest in insurance, you don't deserve sympathy donations. they didn't deserve to have the van burnt, but there are precautions to take

Stolen Cars are often burned, it isn't that rare. They take what they want, get all the parts they can sell, and then burn it.

No evidence.

This really sucks for Lovedrug, I'm going to donate some cash for them.

Just because you have insurance doesn't mean that solves the problem. Look at The Late Night. They just had their equipment stolen, and their insurance wasn't enough to even begin rebuilding what they had lost. If you don't want to donate, then don't.

Or maybe more venues should invest in outside security. Even so, its often after the show that stuff gets stolen. Weatherbox just had their stuff stolen on the street while they were sleeping.

I 100% agree, downriver is NOT ghetto or anything, just irish and drunk people with absolutely nothing to do.

Bands in the city of Detroit...Trust me, just invest in the club...it's what? 20-40 bucks?

I'm not a big Lovedrug fan. But I really feel bad for these guys. They were really nice when I saw them and they sure don't deserve this. If I wasn't already borrowing money from my mom I'd donate. Maybe I'll give a little when I get paid or something.
It's really bad ass they're still going though. That's cool. That also makes them deserve donations even more.

its detroit. the police only react when one of their officers is fatally shot, which is about once a week.

so like the hundreds of homicides and arsons a month, they wont even find a suspect.

For everyone talking about insurance:

While at a show last month, my brother's car was broken into and everything out of his trunk was stolen (this included my purse and my sister's.) My brother's car was insured, as well as my dad's homeowners insurance covering everything inside that was lost. (Yes, if whoever owns the car has homeowner's insurance - they have to cover the losses of the car. Bands take note, users take note for future reference. Most people don't know that.) Over a month later, the claims on the insurance still haven't been approved or dished out. Imagine how tough it be being a band? Waiting for insurance to go through, settling their claim, getting a check for the claim, buying their gear, etc. Itd take them months to get back on their feet solely relying on insurance. Now, which would you rather have? Them using their insurance and absent from touring for months, or sympathetic fans helping them get back on their feet so they can tour for them each night?

This is ridiculous; the number of bands that have been robbed in the past few months across the country is insane -- especially since this is only the ones we hear about. There are probably tons of bands that don't even make it onto our radars getting ripped off; and they don't have a fanbase or a label to help them get back on their feet. :/

Poor guys. What a load of crap.

i think the club owners should have a police officer watch the area during shows.
Obviously this doesnt just happen at the venue. Usually most of the bands equipment is in the venue then they are there. Usually it happens if the band stays at a hotel or parks somewhere.
Bands dont really make that much on the road, thats why they are in a van for crying out loud, they cant afford to fire a somebody to always watch the van and trailer and the insurance isnt cheap either.

The only thing bands can really do is try to prevent it from happening. Have alarms put on the vehicle and trailer, make sure everything is locked up well, and park in high traffic areas. But in the end this stuff is always going to happen because it's organized. These people that do this know what they are doing. Im sure they follow the bands after shows and wait for them to park.

Sad to see this happen though. Some of these instruments is all these guys have.

most states in the united states require car insurance. i'm pretty sure it was insured.

regardless, insurance is a fucking BITCH. they rarely give you a check for the amount of money that you could use to buy a similar item in the same working order, there are some things that just can't be insured, insurance is not really the most efficient process, etc, etc. they'll be lucky if they get a check for half of what they had a year from now. bands cannot afford to take a year off and wait for insurance...that's pretty obvious to me. and they're never going to be able to get back to what they had with just insurance money. if you've dealt with insurance and managed to get enough money to get something in the same condition and working order as you had before you are the luckiest guy in the world.
