View Full Version : Rock's AbsolutePunk.net II Fantasy Football League
Hey guys,
I ran a Yahoo! AP fantasy football league last year, and I'm running one again this year. This league promises to be even better than last year's because I've made a few scoring changes - one to make the scoring less touchdown-heavy, and the other to allow receivers and defensive players to get points for return yards. The scoring format used will be head-to-head. I've capped the number of teams at 16, which I feel is a good number. There will be an 8-team playoff during weeks 14, 15, and 16. We will have a live draft Sunday, August 19th at 5PM EDT (2PM PDT). I've tried to account for the fact that people on the west coast will be joining this league. Hopefully, drafting at 2PM won't be a problem for west coast people, and they won't be confused by the fact that this league is being run by someone in the midwest. This thread will be used for sign-ups as well as league discussion all season long. I'm willing to make a change or two as far as roster positions go. They are currently as follows:

i know what you're saying, but i don't really see a problem with it. the keeper league is impossible to get into, and i know we have more than enough people here to fill 3 leagues.

Yeah im really in iraq, I will be done here pretty much before the end of the fantasy league, Well I pride myself to be the first person from Iraq on this site, but im only here for a year good ole army reserves. This is what I was hoping you would be doing because I know the sports forum's pretty much yours now. I definitely want in this if you're cool with it (I'm not exactly "regular" anymore) because I can't not do fantasy and I don't like to do a league with strangers/public leagues.

I know we haven't seen eye to eye much but I'd love to be a part of the FF league again as I have been the last two years (I'm not sure if you ran it two years ago, but I've been in two FF leagues each the last two seasons consisting mostly of "regulars").

It's ok, I like Yahoo's shift to 1 pt per 25 yards passing and 4 per passing TD this year though. The rest is good though.

I like their shift to 10 yards per receiving and rushing point, which I kept. I didn't like the reduction from 50 yards per passing point to 25 yards per passing point, because quarterbacks already outscored other positions by at least 2-3x the number of points. Now, with the reduction of yards needed per receiving and rushing point, this may not be as big of an issue. Especially coupled with the reduction in points per passing TD. I'll consider a change.

I take it this means we're now full. I don't know why some people refuse to post in this thread that they've signed up after they do so. Regardless, thanks to everyone that's signed up and I look forward to the draft and this year's league. Live draft in 12 (!) days! If you would (and especially if you haven't indicated that you've signed up in this thread), post in this thread with your team name. That way, we can identify team with Absolutepunk.net users, and I can PM everyone in advance of the draft reminding them.
P.S. Before anyone says so, I realize that if I requested that everyone make their teamname their Absolutepunk username, we wouldn't have any trouble knowing who everyone is. I think it's more fun being able to choose team names, though.

If you aren't going to make your team name your AP name, then we should make a list of the team names with the AP username they coincide with. You could also put everyone's AIM names there too. That's what my friend did in his league, it was a pretty good idea..

I do utilize some additional statistical categories that Yahoo! doesn't utilize, such as return yards and defensive and special team touchdowns. Other than that...I reduced ypp for RBs and WRs to 10, in line with what Yahoo! did for this year. I don't usually even change the points assigned for defensive stat categories.

The people that autodraft in this draft are going to be in a lot of trouble because Yahoo!'s rankings for defensive players are always fucked. I am never able to understand how they assign them.

I've never drafted defensive players before but I'm thinking the best players (based on stats) would be Jason Taylor, Demeco Ryans, Demarcus Ware, Shawn Merriman, Asante Samuels, Champ Bailey, Lito Shephard, and Rasheen Mathis.

In all seriousness, I think I have one of the best teams on paper right now. I'm not going to say it's the best because I'm relying on two rookies (Bowe and Jackson...lol Bo Jackson) and Brandon Jacobs, I don't know how that is going to turn out.
My defense is pretty solid: New England/Oakland, and then IDP's: Jason Taylor, Trevor Pryce, Jared Allen (when the waiver goes through), and Asante Samuel.

Overall I like my team. I think my IDP's are pretty solid and I can't see a flaw in the rest of my team..unless it's me taking a risk in starting two rookies.

I would agree. Like I said, it's going to be a challenge. I'm fine with that. I'm really going to need a couple of players to emerge, though.

By all means. Take your time.
After seeing what players are available through free agency, I think that as much as only having four bench spots sucks, I like it in a 16 team league because otherwise instead of having some rather unexciting second or third receivers or back up running backs being available through free agency, there would be nothing but third running backs and fourth receivers.

I could create a million scenarios that would have won me the game: Larry Johnson/Chiefs O-Line not sucking for the third straight game, Ahman Green not getting injured, Dennis Northcutt not being a total waste (or me playing Shaun McDonald or Derrick Mason instead)...the list goes on

Sorry brah! Haha seriously though, I'm really enjoying your league. The depth of it and the defensive players adds such a huge element that I've never experienced before in fantasy football.
People need to be using the defensive side of the ball more. I just found Bob Sanders and Nate Clements in the free agent pool....

I'll get over it. Even though I left some points on the bench, I don't regret any of the personnel decisions I made because a couple of those players should have had a few more points (especially Green, who got injured).
I thought initially we could have used one more bench spot, but I think I like it as is. With 16 teams, if you have any more than 4 bench spots, the free agency pool is going to be really shallow, which is lame. IDPs are fun as well. I considered grabbing Sanders, but missed out, I guess. Really, though, with the number of defensive players that are available, it's usually fairly easy to find someone good or up-and-coming (Jared Allen just came off of a 2-game suspension and had a monster game, I grabbed him immediately).
Make me trade offers, pussies. I just set up my trading block.

I put up a good fight, but my running backs did shit the entire year. And my unstoppable wide receiver corp bit the dust towards the end. I at least made it to the championship game.
