who here plays a lot of this?

I'm thinking about putting some money on Pokerroom.com, and signing up for some $5-10 tournaments when I get bored. Has anybody here done this, and how did you all like it?

If anybody ever wants to play me on there, just hit me up. It'd be cool getting a table over there with a $5 buy-in.

I play on Bodog when I'm bored. If you have the free time the small money tournaments can be fun.

I play on pokerstars. Really low stakes. Typically, $3-$5 sit-n-go tournaments, or $.5/$.10 cash games. It's fun, but the bad beats seem to really get out of hand sometimes, which is frustrating.

i 6-table .25/.50 no-limit cash on full tilt, and play $10-$30 tourneys. i used to play pot-limit omaha but i haven't in awhile.

i'd be wary of pokerroom...in the last year they've had a couple of issues with not paying out customers proper amounts after tournaments. their customer service is pretty shitty and the software sucks. if i were you i'd stick to pokerstars, full tilt, ultimate bet, or bodog.

going to AC this weekend, too.

Definitely avoid Pokerroom. I used to play there and it's shady. If you're going to bet small amounts then pokerstars is your best bet. Just realize there are a lot of fish out there and people will call you to the river with dick. That's why I stopped playing. It gets to a point where it's not even poker anymore.

I do that once and a while, but it gets annoying. I'd rather play $30 tournaments with my friends.

online poker pretty much anywhere is not worth it. i've played at ultimatebet, pokerstars, empirepoker, partypoker, and full tilt and i've had way too many weird things happen at each and every, especially in cash games, that it isn't worth it. playing on empire i once had 7 straight pocket pairs. my record on ultimatebet was 5. that clearly does not happen. your best bet is to just find a small home game to play in. they're all over the place.

you understand that online, you see 4x the amount of hands you see live. it may seem like bad beats are everywhere, and you're getting pocket pairs all the time. but i play 6 tables at a time and see approximately 600-700 hands/hr - i can tell you that it's not 'rigged', and that getting pocket pairs for even 15 hands in a row is statistically possible (though improbable).

also, online poker has become 100x harder than it was two years ago, even at the micro stakes. so if you're getting pounded, chances are you're getting your $ in bad or you're not playing your hands properly to maximize value - or the players are just better than you.

it's definitely 'worth it', when i log 20k more hands i'll show you my graph to prove it.

I find that going to some buddies house, throwing in $10-15 with 6-7 people playing, watching them all get hammered and walking away with half of the money - my friend won the other half - while drinking free beer and having a good time is much more worth my time then online poker for cash.

oh i totally agree. i'm just an action junkie that loves poker, and playing online allows me to see more hands and get more experience than i could ever get playing live in home games or a casino. i don't really get a thrill out of winning x amount of money - what drives me to play is putting a guy on a range of hands, being right, and playing optimally against him.

Oh, I know. I like playing poker too and would like to delve more into it, but I don't get excited about playing online. Even if you do see more hands, I'd much rather play a home game, or go to a casino and play. I just like playing live better then anything.

And none of my friends are big into it. Like being analytical about it and working pot odds and whatnot.

I play the $2/5 NL games here in LA (commerce, the bicycle club, hawaiian gardens, hustler, hollywood park, etc.). Sometimes will play the $1/3 NL. Take a trip to Vegas once a month to play as well. Also have a thursday night home game that I play in with a group of about 25-32 guys a week that has been going every week for the past 4 years now. $20 buy in, its cheap but its some good poker going on and lots of fun.

Don't really play online too much and if I do its on fulltilt for sure and then I just play like $10 short handed sit n go's

i assume you're talking about bots/hole card software. the latter only works if a computer is directly connected to yours (through some kind of computer security failure), and the former only works for limit hold'em. i've been known to curse the random number generator from time to time, but in the longrun the stats make sense to prove things are legit.

i use to play on Bodog a lot, played 1-2 cash games and sit and go tournaments. but now that you cant use a credit card directly i don't even bother. you now need to sign up with another site and have your money transfered, its too much work.

i prefer live games anyway, there's a bi-weekly tournament played in my town, $20 buy in, around 40 people show up. top 5 make money, its a lot of fun. then there is also the 2 hour drive to AC...

.com is the real money site. you have to get a gift card and/or have a card that is accepted by stars (which its probably not), or get an internet payment processor (like epassporte, mywebatm). your money is safe once it gets to stars, because their $ is insured by the royal bank of scotland. its the payment processors that have the potential to be shady. fwiw i've used epassporte to get money between ftp and stars, and haven't had any problems.

sharkscope is cool, but doesn't sort out by event type (i.e. 9 man, 90 man, 45 man). officialpokerrankings.com is great for both mtt's and sng's.

i use pokertracker and pahud for cash games, and just datamine the shit out of ftp, so i have pretty solid stats on all the regs.

i've always wanted to play in LA, i hear there are a lot of good rooms out there.

LA has great card rooms. Commerce is by far the best followed by the Bicycle Club. Then there is also Hustler Casino, Hollywood Park, and Hawaiian Gardens. The last 3 mentioned the quality of play isn't nearly as good and the games have a lot more action and loose players, where as Commerce the play is a bit tighter and the players tend to be better.

the only one i know of thats good is commerce. but thats 21+ so i cant go yet.

you've obvioulsy never played poker for 48 straight hours. Sitting at a table and playing well for 48 hours > standing around on a baseball field for 3 hours and running a total of 100 yards and maybe throwing a ball 6 or 7 times.

StevieShotgun

actually, after further consideration I agree that poker is not a sport. All you do is sit for hours and takes no physical skill. Therefore I have concluded that it is a "game" and not a "sport".

From my understanding you can't play online poker in Oklahoma anymore, since it is illegal. I heard that if your IP address indicates that you are from Oklahoma, or any other state in which it is illegal, then the website will not allow you to play for real money, only play money.
