The humor was mostly subtle, and every time I began to get the least bit bored with the subtle humor. Alan Arkin brought me back into the movie.

You probably missed a lot of the more subtle jokes.

the jokes are subtle but i crack up every time i watch this movie. the scene around the table, when the cop finds the porn, getting the granpa out of the hospital and the ending are all great.

i think it depends on your sense of humor. some people get it, others don't. i thought it was fucking hilarious and the characters were all so ridiculous while somehow staying totally normal and not coming off as dramatic.

i loved this movie. the humor was very subtle. i looooooved the scene at the dinner table when steve carrell is trying to explain why he is there and the dad acts the way he does.
im gonna have to watch this soon...its been a while since i saw it.
fun fact...this was the first movie i took my gf to see...it was our first real date. freaking sweet.

although some of the humor is quite subtle and different, it is a quality film, even if you don't catch every little funny piece. and Arkin was great.
It was a little disappointing to me, just because so many people were saying that it was "sooooooo funny!" So I was expecting more.

I thought it was hilarious, and it was one of my favorite films of last year next to The Departed, Children of Men, and Pan's Labyrinth.

I've never laughed so hard at a movie than LMS, the closest after that was Anchorman. But I was nearly crying watching Little Miss Sunshine, it was such a great comedy.

I thought Steve Carell's performance was top-notch, as well as Arkin's. Definitely in my top 3 of 06.

I understand what you're saying, I don't remember cracking up. But I still really liked the movie, i thought it was clever and I liked the story. It was funny but not in a laugh out loud sort of way.

I dunno, the scenes while they're driving are pretty damn funny.

I thought it was overrated. And yeah, I know the word overrated is very overrated itself when talking about movies but after all the praise, I found it very average. It tries to be smart and philosophical but I think it's more pretentious. So we get references to Nietzsche, that's insightful. Not to mention it has some silly, non-believable scenarios for a film that tries to be somewhat realistic. If you've seen the movie, you know what scene I'm talking about. We also get the stereotypical crazy grandpa, the emo son, and the loser dad. Steve Carrel and the little girl were the only people I thought stood out. Don't get me wrong, it was a semi-funny movie but I never thought it deserved the praise.

You better be kidding. That movie was just...eh...
As for LMS...It wasn't a bad movie. I liked it better the first time around, but it's still good. Alan Arkin was great in it. But I have to say my favorite part is where the kid who doesn't talk has a nervous breakdown because he found out he's colorblind. Is that mean of me?
