Who better to be the messiahs of music who actually take their work seriously.. Not saying that other bands don't but, it is the fans, who put them on such a pedestal.. I'm sure that if you were to ask them if they read what fans have to say, they wouldn't even care..

Blink-182 began their career with parental troubles and rejection stories that were peppered with humour, and by their last album they were singing about suicide and structuring songs around letters Mark Hoppus' grandfather had written to his grandmother while fighting in the war. They lyrical subject of their songs grew.

The lyrical quality also had a significant increase - 'Carousel' was the first song Mark and Tom had written together, and featured the lyrics, "I talk to you every now and then/I never felt so alone again/I stop to think at a wishing well/My thoughts send me on a carousel." In contrast, 'All Of This' was also written about girl troubles, however was penned more than a decade later and contained significantly deeper and more mature words: "Oh again I wait for this to fill the holes/To shake the sky in two/Another night with her/But I'm always wanting you."

I don't really think that it is realistic to say that blink ever progressed beyond a three-chord pop-punk band.. The only thing that really got better for that band was the lyrical maturity and Travis Barker taking over on drums.. Besides that, all their songs are basically the same..

On the other hand, Brand New went from making a pop-punk record in Your Favorite Weapon to making two supremely superior records..
