"Is this what you call tact? I swear you're as subtle as a brick in the small of my back. So let's end this call, and end this conversation..."
These lyrics appear in TBS's There's No "I" In Team and in Brand New's Seventy times 7. Now i didn't notice this untill yesterday, however it got me thinking, whats up with that. Did one take it from the other or is it a mutual thing cause I know how they are all friends. If you have an answer for me, I would appreciate it. Thanks

Brand New's Your Favorite Weapon was released in 2001. TBS's Tell All Your Friends was released in 2002. Which came first?

This subject sure is getting tiresome...
Anyway...Brand New's "Your Favorite Weapon" DID come out in 2001, but like in December while Taking Back Sunday's "Tell All Your Friends" came out in March 2002. Just because one came out before the other doesn't mean anything. That can be due to how long a record label wants to wait to put a record out or how fast a band records their album and various other reasons.
The story behind those two songs happened a long time ago before either albums were released and both songs were written around the same time. Everyone blows the situation out of proportion. John and Jesse really didn't talk for only a couple/few months and then hatched their problems with each other and were good friends again. It's not like they hated each other for years on end and then finally got rid of their differences. It is very possible that after this whole "ordeal" (couple of months) that Jesse showed John the song he wrote about the situation and then John wrote his version and what he felt. Hence, he probably just took some of the lines from Jesse's song to include in his own...probably with Jesse's consent too.
It's not like BN hated TBS when both albums came out and it's not like the situation had just happened around the time the records were being recorded. And BN and TBS don't hate each other now either. So no lyrics were really 'stolen' but probably 'borrowed' with consent from the original author (that being either John first or Jesse first).
