I know there are like 40 fugazi threads already, but ... its fugazi! And this video is awesome. Ian Mackaye's emotional performance of the song seems to set back even Guy

And by the way, I'm not even really a fan, but overrated is never a word I would use to describe them.

BTW we've just had a show on the TV over here "7 Ages Of Rock" on Saturday it was all about Alternative Rock, featuring Pixies, Black Flag, Nirvana and lots of REM. It hailed REM as pretty much the ultimate alternative band, who never sold out or compromised their values. It had me almost screaming at the TV.

I've always thought REM was the worst sellout of that bunch. Pixies and Nirvana never did technically sell out did they?

Meh, I shouldn't have said that, because compared to mainstream stuff Fugazi is unheard of. I personally find it annoying how everyone in the indie/emo/hardcore/punk scene worships Fugazi just because its cool to. I appreciate Fugazi, everything they've done for music, society, and I love what they stand for. Any who, I guess all I was trying to say is that everyone likes them to be cool. My bad.

I actually do agree with you. There are like 6 comments of "Fugazi is awesome!" where thats all that is said. Come on, I can say that about sublime, even if I haven't heard them, or any band. At least throw a little bone to their music. And has no one watched that vid in my first post? Its an awesome performance of an awesome song.

Pixies and Nirvana never did technically sell out did they?By my thinking regardless of who did or didn't sell out, a band who always did what they wanted and never compromised has to be Fugazi, but thne they're a little less well known in the mainstream and wouldn't have looked as good on the trailers.

Fugazi exemplifies those traits better than any of the other bands, but they'd rather not have been featured on the program. Its shocking put REM as better than fugazi for not selling out, but its b/c they refuse to sell out that that happens (they don't want to be involved with anything that has beer or nicotine ads).

Jesus christ. Ian Mackaye is really awesome.

buy this fucking album, 13 songs, or you are not punk.

Honestly though, I rep this album all the time. Fugazi is the example of DIY and how it is possible to exist and still make some money.

Fugazi is not over rated. They are one of those bands who are universal, even to the mainstream pop punk kids and everyone else. you don't have to dig too deep into music to find fugazi, yet they are still, underground. They may play shows to big crowds, but they are underground. They play for the underground and they arent signed to a major label.

It's genius.

Have fun though.

When they start falling executions will commence
Sides will not matter now matter makes no sense
How did a difference become a disease?
I'm sure you have reasons, a rational defense
Weapons and motives, bloody fingerprints
But I can't help thinking it's still a disease

Good stuff, though I don't listen to often/haven't listened to much. "Song #1" and "Suggestion" are probably my top 2.

His bass lines were amazing on every Fugazi release.. never checked out his solo stuff. Will totally do that soon though.

Really disliked their sound when I first started posting here, but eventually checked it out again and loved it. Thread just made me start listening to The Arguement again :-d

yeah, his bass work in fugazi is one of the things i love about 'em. and his solo stuff is pretty much what you'd expect, if you're familiar with what he adds to the band. and it's great!

that's rad to hear you dig 'em a lot more now! i think it took me a while to get into 'em and appreciate 'em. i started off with just a few songs here and there by 'em that i downloaded online. then one day i blindly purchased a copy of end hits and eventually it clicked with me. wish i could've seen 'em live!

I downloaded the discography years ago when I only liked rap, and just thought they were awful. Somehow ended up listening to Repeater not that long ago and fell in love. Everything is so good.. though I think people need to look past 13 Songs sometimes and appreciate the other stuff too.

I'm probably in the minority on this one but I like In On The Killer Taker the most. Could have something to do with Public Witness Program being the first Fugazi song I liked, or the album just flat out rules.

It seems like it's Cecil Otter (of Doomtree fame) and another guy and they're going to do more songs. I'd love to here anything over the Waiting Room bassline. I'm amazed nobody's sampled that for a rap song so far.

Probably because I doubt fugazi would give anyone permission to do so. I think POS might have though I'm not sure

Ah, I really like that - although he runs a Rihanna vocal over it so it's singing not rapping. Still a great moment.

Jumpoff: POS interpolates a bit of Five Corporations (I think) on the song "Savion Glover" but I'm not sure he samples any of the actual record.

Today I am mainly thinking about how good "Epic Problem" is.

This is awesome.

Fugazi played over 1000 concerts, covering all fifty United States, Europe, Australia, South America, Japan and many points in between. Over 800 of these shows were recorded by the band's sound engineers, often on high quality recording gear.

The Fugazi Live Series is a complete online archive of these concerts. Show pages will feature data from the concerts and (when available) related photos, flyers and MP3 downloads. The goal is to make the shows available to browse for free or to download for a small fee. Initially the band will release 130 downloads (101 new shows plus 29 of the shows released on the now out-of-print Fugazi Live CD series). Additional downloads, photos, flyers, etc. will be added regularly until the entire archive is available.

there are about 11 great songs on The Argument. give or take.

songs 1-11 also sound really different from each other. but just those. the silence before and after you put the album on is when it gets generic.

we need to make a compilation of our favorite albums and go on another road trip with it. i like that weve both broadened our horizons since last time and yet we probably still have a ton of overlap. i know Fugazi and Yo La Tengo would be huge pieces in the puzzle.

does anybody else find themselves turning the volume all the way up and going about 20 mph faster when Epic Problem comes on in their car? i always know it's coming at track 4 because i actually still use CDs, like compact discs, in my car like it's still 2005, and about a minute in i just cant help it, i lose myself in those drum fills and those frantic chords.
