it took a while for me to get round to checking these boys out (maybe i just didn't want to accept the incredible 'hot water music' had actually called it a day haha). but i'm glad i took the time & took a listen with an impartial mind. these guys have still managed to produce a tasteful raw melodic rock sound, with that same passion that really blossomed in hot water music's material. i was pretty surprised at chris’ vocal ability to really step it up & front the band (vocally), but he does really well. check them out if you haven’t already

any fans, share some love & discussion?

i really like this band but they are nowhere near to being as good as hot water music.

i've been doing my best not to compare the two when listening, which i reckon is a good way to go about it 'cause yea as you said, if you do compare them, hot water music is going to win everytime haha

once again Craig, we find ourselves in agreement haha.
I actually got In a Million Pieces the week it was released, and really enjoyed it.
its grown on me even more lately, too.

good stuff.

yea i'm hearing that. chris' voice takes everything in a very different direction, in a way i didn't think it would before hearing it (even though he did vocals in hot water music). i'd love to hear where they go from here

haha nice! i checked that album out in the very beginnings of this year & really enjoyed it on first listen. & as we know the hot water boys music isn't completely digestible in one or two listens, so i more i listened to it the more & i was feeling it. great record

fully agreed. all the hot water music alumni seem to have this fantastic ability (unlike so many bands these days) to really capture their passion & energy on a studio recording. a lot of bands can do it live (which is so so wonderful), but it's a whole different story on a studio album

Yeah, i like them a lot. Definitely not as good as HWM, but that's not a fault by any means. Not many bands are as good as HWM. Great live band too. Saw them with AM! recently.

Also, Chris has a split 7" coming out on Asian Man Records with Mike Hale (ex-Gunmoll, who like HWM were also formerly on No Idea Records, haha). I can't wait to see what his solo stuff will sound like :-)

I've ordered the two Draft 7"s with my Chuck Ragan vinyl (which is delayed by over a month and counting :-( ) Even though i got the Devil In The Shade/Na Na Na 7" as a bonus with my In A Million Pieces vinyl, haha. One has a white sleeve, the other has black

last time i saw the draft live, i had such a good time. there were no idiots in the crowd and everyone was there to just enjoy the music.

how could you argue with that

They are good.

Chuck Ragan is better.

Hot Water Music is even betterer.

couldn't agree more, every song has a great feel to it, with no real weak points on the album

although i haven't had the pleasure live, i'd imagine they'd put on one awesome gig. & yea that even seems to be the case on ap now that you mention it, all the hot water music & bands alike fans on here are all good buggers too haha

when is it due?

Wobbie
07/17/07, 06:09 AM
September. That's all the Asian Man site says. So i guess we'll get an actual date soon. Mike Hale's solo stuff sounds awesome http://www.myspace.com/mikehalemusic His full length is also due on on Asian Man in September.

And i have no idea what Chris's stuff will be like. That's why i'm so highly anticipating it. I want to hear what he'd sound like solo.

ahh thanks for this, you're the 'go to guy' when it comes to a lot of the smaller, yet talented bands. i can't wait to hear them both, got me very interested

I quite agree with you.

It took me a while to warm up to these guys but now I can't get enough. They're easier to appreciate once you accept the fact that they aren't Hot Water Music.

CellarGhosts
05/23/08, 06:58 AM
Haha.

Yeah, I know what you're getting at. I liked them from the start, really, maybe because I got into Hot Water Music the same day I got into them haha. I was kinda late to the HWM party. I got In a Million Pieces and Caution on the same day. I was into a few HWM songs before, but that was my first actual album.

In A Million Pieces is good, but the song Longshot sucks. New Eyes open makes up for it though.

don't they have a new album coming out sometime this year? i was reading in a chuck ragan interview earlier in the year, that both the draft & chuck have pretty much written new albums, just adding finishing touches?

Sweet video up there.

They were great the last time I saw them. That show had one of the greatest line-ups of all time ever, The Draft/Dead to Me/Gaslight Anthem/Andrew Jackson Jihad/My Mind. Bingo bango.

Just listened to them for the first time. Really, really great stuff. It seems as though everything and anything associated with Hot Water Music is brilliant.
