View Full Version : Race & Crime...
I am having troubles finding any statistics on the correlation between crime and race in the U.S. so I thought I would create a thread on here asking for help.
I am also interested in some statistics on the same topic, but in different countries.
Thanks. I'm not sure why I am having trouble finding information via Google.
I don't have any statistics off hand, but in my sociology class we were told that crime rates were higher in geographical areas where minorities lived, generally for economic reasons. inner cities especially have higher crime rates in the "darker" areas, for lack of a better term. the drug trade dominates cities like Philly and Baltimore, parts of New York, East St. Louis, you get the point.

i heard somewhere that more blacks are arrested than whites, in relation to how many of them are eventually charged. don't have a source though, sorry. just food for thought though

this is cool, might be kind of old but you could probably find later editions. and it even states that "police are not biased against minorities". so you know its good.

Well, like other people have mentioned, I took a psychology/sociology class last semester and we discussed these kinds of topics. I can not remember where I placed the sheet of paper that contained some of the racial bias in crime, but I do remember one instance in where punishment for different races was seen as unequal :

I'm not sure when it was written though. I hope that helps.

you know why you don't ha ve any statistics?
cause they don't want you to know how many blacks they arrest for no reason.
'nuff said.

yes you must be right. because they arrest black people and other minorities then when they book them and release the info to courts and press, they write down "no reason" under their charges. thats why we can't find statistics....
think before you speak. if you would have raised the question of "what percentage of charges are dropped/dismissed against blacks?" then you might be on the right track on your ignorant statement. sure i believe that racial profiling causes many arrests and traffic stops, etc.. but to claim that you cant find any statistics in regards to crime rates because "they" (who ever you mean by that) are withholding that info, is a little ridiculous.
