162 game averages of 33 HR, 110 RBI, .305 avg, .402 obp, .543 slg, only hit below .300 1 time when playing in 140+ games in a season, and one time in 137 games hit a measly .248. His career high in RBI's in 111 and his 162 game average is 110. Shows his immense and great consistency.

Struck out more then he walked only 3 times in his career for a season.
8 straight 100+ RBI seasons from 96-03.

Plus, injuries have been robbing him of his numbers or he'd be at 400+ HR's already and would be a slam dunk. And I think he's got the 3rd most HR's by a switch hitter, only behind Mickey Mantle and Eddie Murray. Only switch hitter to hit .300 for his career and have 300 HR's in MLB history. And he wasn't a hinderance in the field, as he played league average defense throughout his career.

I should add his Post Season numbers:

20 Post Season series: .288, 47 HR, 72 RBI, .411 OBP, .459 SLG
13 HR, 47 RBI.*

i still think he needs another 3 years of decent production

The fact that he's a switch hitter also makes his stats that much better. It's tough to hit consistently from both sides.

13 HR, 47 RBI.*Fuck baseball reference, the columns are messed up hahaha

Fuck baseball reference, the columns are messed up hahaha
Haha, yeah, I saw that too.

And for what it's worth:

Gray Ink (http://www.baseball-reference.com/about/leader_glossary.shtml#gray_ink): Batting - 93 (245) (Average HOFer ≈ 144)
HOF Standards (http://www.baseball-reference.com/about/leader_glossary.shtml#hof_standards ): Batting - 55.3 (48) (Average HOFer ≈ 50)
HOF Monitor (http://www.baseball-reference.com/about/leader_glossary.shtml#hof_monitor): Batting - 132.0 (99) (Likely HOFer > 100)

If he plays three or four more years, I don't think there's any question he gets in.

Ya I think he needs a few more years for this to be considered

hahahaha Chipper's stats at Shea Stadium:

.314, 17 HR's

Those are the best numbers for any player on the road in any stadium.

(He loves his numbers there so much he named his daughter Shea after the stadium. Barry Larkin's numbers were great at Shea too, he made Shea his daughter's middle name)

If only because he has probably been the most dominate and consistent 3B of his time.

i think he's in, so consistent when he's healthy

mat1419
07/10/07, 01:48 PM
he needs a few more years of that, but if he puts 3 or 4 more together definately. he puts 5 or 6 more together, first ballot.

He's a fringe guy IMO...he will get in due to his positive media image

Easily top five of the players I've watched over the years. I watched Braves games as a kid, mostly for him.

I'd say he's in now. I hope he comes back. Even if only so he can end his career on his own terms.

Seriously? This isn't even a discussion. He's the best third baseman to ever play the game, save for Brett, Schmidt, and maybe Matthews.

he'll get in the first year he's eligible thanks to all the players who've gotten caught up in steroid scandals. if not for that i think he'd have to wait a couple years.

In looking at his career numbers initially, for some reason my initial inclination was "fringe player". The more I compare them to the greats of the game, the more I agree with you

Late response, but you're probably right, as I mentioned in the above post. He's probably the 5 or 6 best 3B all time

Voted yes. Someone less lazy should make threads for Derek Jeter, Vlad Guerrero, and Jamie Moyer. Those would be good debates. Well, the Jamie Moyer thread would probably be good for a bunch of Jamie Moyer jokes.

bigmike
08/28/10, 12:01 AM
If by "good debates" in regards to Derek Jeter being an HOFer, I'll just assume you meant to type "wouldn't be a debate at all, so there's no sense in making a thread about it."

Fucking LOL @ Jamie Moyer and Hall of Fame being linked with "would be a good debate."

Scott Weber
08/28/10, 02:21 PM
anybody who believes jamie moyer should be in the hall of fame should never be allowed to talk baseball again. the hall is reserved for good players, not mediocre ones who just pitch for 30 years.

Broken Parachute
08/28/10, 03:07 PM
Jamie Moyer? Really? And in what universe would Derek Jeter get snubbed from the HOF? Career BA of .315, 4 gold gloves, a ROTY award, 3000 hits (assuming) and the heart/soul of 5 World Series titles? It's not up for debate.

He was my favorite player, as well as Ken Griffey Jr., growing up.
