he's leaving espn on august 17th.
that really fucking bums me out. i've grown up watching espn, and dan patrick, keith olbermann and craig kilborn were always my favorite anchors. it was nice having at least one of them still there.
i've always been a fan, but grew to be an even bigger fan while listening to his radio show for the past few years. especially with him doing what he could to mend fences between olbermann and espn enough to allow olbermann to join him for an hour each day on his radio show, which is consistently my favorite hour of any day.
i know some people don't like him, but he's been at espn for 18 years now, so at least to me it's a pretty big fucking deal.

i read about the rumor last week on fark, i listen to him every day on my way to work, gonna miss his show
I respect him because he knows how to push people's buttons. My favorite was when he asked David Stern how it felt to ruin the NBA playoffs when he suspended Stoudamire.

That's sad. What's he doing now? Selling out like Olbermann did?

i have a hard time saying that anyone leaving ESPN is selling out, considering what ESPN has become haha.
that ship sank a long time ago.

He did say last week that he was asked to replace bob barker on the price is right, but I havent heard if he accepted that job or not.

he was not asked to replace bob barker, he auditioned for it and didnt get an offer.
he's going to get a huge nationally syndicated talk show, absent of the ESPN controls.
probably looking at something like taking over what IMUS was doing, probably/hopefully with a little bit more sports included.

he's just gonna test the free agent market for now. said he definitely wants to end up on radio again. says he's unsure about television.
and i know you're joking, but olbermann didn't really sell out. he was pretty much forced to leave espn, and his next step from there was actually doing sports. it wasn't until after that when he started doing newsy news.

i love ko reporting real news. dude's far too smart to be doing sports exclusively.
with that said though, i'm incredibally fucking stoked to see him on nbc's nfl show this coming season. that'll be pretty great.
i'd kill if some network would reunite ko and dp in their own show. that'd be pretty fantastic.

I love Dan Patrick. This will suck. It won't be long before all the original guys are gone (Kenny Mayne, Trey Wingo, Stuart Scott, etc.).
Is Linda Cohn still doing Sportscenter? I never see her anymore.

i question whether or not dan patrick can succeed outside of the sports world on television ..he asks tough questions, but i dont think hes very likeable. i have a hard time picturing viewers warming up to him. radio is definitely where he should stay.

i agree ...olbermann is the only talk show host i make it a point to watch. him being on NBC in the fall will be something i won't miss.

i would assume he has something big lined up seeing as how he's leaving a network he's been w/ for 18 years and arguably the most well known guy there

I'll miss him for sure. But, considering I don't listen to his radio show much and I haven't seen him on the network much lately, I probably won't miss him to the extent that everyone else will.

I thought maybe he would just quit doing Sportscenter and shit, and just stick with his radio show, but guess not
occasionally. seems like she's on espnews more than espn anymore though.
their punishing her because she openly embraces hockey....and she looks like a horse kinda.
I never really liked dan patrick. hes a true professional but he always seemed bland to me. then again i really only like john anderson, buttchigross and kenny mayne when he rarely does it anymore.
really dont know what he'll do now. probably has enough money to dissappear for a while and then come back to espn.

he won't come back to espn. he'll get a big paying radio job somewhere.
i never saw him as bland. not at all. the old school sportscenters with him and olbermann were the first to really showcase personalities. and his radio show is very entertaining.
in the past few years though, it has seemed like he's kinda mailed in all his tv work. it seems like he's far more interested in radio at this point in his career.

i do remember those classic sunday night shows as a little kid.
maybe thats what im recalling because it just seems whenever hes on now hes flat. i rarely listen to his radio show because its on tape delay in detroit, at like 8 or 9 or something like that.

i'm really not trying to be overly critical here, but every time i read something you've posted, i notice how much you overuse the f-word. it's kind of like stephen a. smith and how he yells ALL THE TIME. when do something too much, it loses its effect. just something to think about.

patrick already got a job. it's with the content factory:
Longtime ESPN Radio and TV personality Dan Patrick, who – as reported here this week – is leaving the sports network, will join The Content Factory, a new broadcast venture that plans to transmit radio content over different mediums.
On MSNBC.com, Content Factory founder Jimmy deCastro commented: “Dan isn’t leaving radio — he’s leading radio to its next logical path, much the way the web, mobile devices and 24/7 wireless connectivity has done for video. He will continue his innovative industry leadership by taking his brand, the ‘Big Show,’ to broader audiences in the innovative ways they receive their information – via radio, television, Internet, podcasts, infopods, mobile devices and beyond.”
Patrick, who will do his last show ESPN Radio show next month, said of ESPN, “It’s been home, but I think I was starting to take it for granted, and I did not want to do. I did not think that was fair to these great people.”
should be interesting. i'm just curious to who will take his slot on espn radio. i'd like to see gottlieb get it, but he just got the sports bash not too long ago, don't know if they'll switch him that fast. eric kusilias would make sense. brian kenny and scott van pelt i think are both capable of taking it also. it'll be interesting. i'd rather see them grab somebody from within though, that's for sure. it's a big spot though.
in a perfect world, kornheiser would come back to radio and take it. but i don't see that happening.
fuck.

i'm so glad he came back for this week to close out his espn career. until this week, he hadn't been doing the show and they actually stopped calling it the dan patrick show. i was getting paranoid he wasn't gonna actually do his final show.
final show's heading into it's last hour now though, and it's pretty great. i'm really gonna miss hearing him on espn.

Screw radio and tv. Didn't you guys see his acting abilities in "I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry?" He put on a moustache and called Chuck and Larry queers and gays. It was amazing. He needs to stick with movies.

they finally named who's replacing dan patrick's show on espn radio.
mike tirico will do from 1-3, and stephen a smith will do 3-4.
i was kind of hoping scott van pelt would get a chance. he's done an excellent job everytime he's filled in.

dont let him hear you say that. he'll claim that you're just being racist.
he's such a dick that pulls the race card on everybody. it seems like every time anybody works with him they're nervous about having him around.

van pelt's a regular part of tirico's show though. apparently he's going to be co-hosting a large part of the time.
not as good as giving him the spot to himself, but at least it's a start. as soon as another nice spot opens up i'd bet it'll go to van pelt.
