saturday, august 30th -- memphis, tn
they toured with taken and amanda rogers. two local memphis bands played, i missed the first one.
i had heard of taken before, but never listened to them, so they were something new for me. they were really good. along the lines of alexisonfire. after the show i hung out and talked with the lead singer. he seemed to be the comedian for the tour. jokes on dallas and such, fun time.
amanda rogers played after taken. she was just... wow. so peacefully beautiful. there were probably over 100 kids just sitting in out small venue listening to her play. soft but strong voice and expert on the piano/keyboard. the lyrics are pretty deep also, i noticed. she said she normally plays 1 cover a show, which is usually creep by radiohead. but she played... creep (radiohead), something vague (bright eyes), and 1980 (at the drive in)... i ended up buying her new album "the places you dwell" and for the past few days have been listening to it a lot. its relaxing piano music. also talked with her after the show for quite a bit.
a memphis band played before alexisonfire. before the show, i met dallas and wade in the gas station across the street. i knew who wade was already, so thats how i knew who it was, and this was before taken took set, so i hung out with them up until the time they set up. george couldnt make it because hes resting for the canadian tour, so a local memphis kid who knew the lyrics to their released songs sang in his place and did a good job. their set was really intense. they opened with .44 caliber love letter and close with a dagger straight through the heart of st angeles. their music was as intense as hanging out with them after the show, and the pit was incredible. we showed them what memphis was about.. and they look to come back. on their upcoming planned tour with taken and this day forward, that show is going to be amazing.
good evening. i bought their new album which should be released in the US on sept 9th, so ive had it a week early and have been listening to it, the lyrics are amazing as well as the songs themselves. great canadian hardcore band, and for those that dont know... say it "alexis on fire"... come to find out they are named after a lactating stripper. heh. awesome show.
i recommend the entire tour package for everyone to check out.
