Who is king of late 90's/early 00's pop punk who never quite achieved Blink, Green Day, MxPx status? my suggestions are the aforementioned, along with Home Grown, the Movielife, MEST, and Bodyjar...

Goldfinger was a little earlier than Allister, I wouldn't really lump them together. Allister was just a somehow-under-the-radar drive thru records band. Can't say I don't enjoy Last Stop Suburbia, though.

Allister has a lot more poppy feel to them also.

Yeah goldfinger was ska-ish for a while. Superman, that was a great song.

I always loved that Allister took 10 years before records...like they were constructing this huge, progessive opus...and then yea....more 30 min pop punk and that was there demise.

they started before late 90's, but i think No Use For A Name would fit here too.

They are both fucking horrible.

I agree. They both suck balls...If I had to pick one pop punk band from that era, I'd say Northstar. They destroy Allister and Goldfinger both.

Goldfinger...the mighty power of 99 Red Balloons blows Allistar away

I love Northstar with a passion, but I don't consider them pop punk at all. They were just a straight-up rock band. Is this Thing Loaded? and Pollyanna are two of my favorite albums.

Good call. I really like that band.

I agree, Northstar doesn't have anything much to do with this thread.

yeah, but they're still plugging along today.... so they're as eligible as the other bands. I have a few of their cds, I like them a lot.

I've always considered them pop punk, but when you put it that way, I suppose you are right.

Goldfinger!

such fond memories of playing Tony Hawks Pro Skater, listening to "Superman" going down the Downhill Jam.

Hang Ups was one of my favorite cds for a long time, their self titled was quite good as well. Both of which were out before Allister put anything out. Goldfinger was sweet live too.
