How is it?
Like most people reading this review, the moniker of the band almost made me skip over this release. I know, I know, judging bands based on their monikers is wrong, but I am sure just about everyone has been guilty of such a crime in some point in their lives. However, I decided to give the band’s new EP Touring The Riot Scene, and upon completion, I was glad I did not let my preconceived judgments get the best of me. Throughout Touring The Riot Scene, Kid:Nap:Kin layer quirky, angular guitar attacks over vocals that range from smooth crooning to full-out spastic screams. For the most part this formula is successful and did a good job catching my attention, but at times the result was often disjointed or too reminiscent of the heavyweights that hold dominion over the style Kid:Nap:Kin try to emulate. The vocals on this album fit the music style perfectly, however the higher pitched vocals tend to detract from portions of the songs. The band has a lot of technical chops and potential to create some truly mesmerizing albums, but Touring The Riot Scene does not quite fit within that category but is a satisfying listen nonetheless.
