I need help, I have recently fell in love with The Slackers and can't get enough. I'm trying to hear as much music like them as possible. So far I like the traditional ska sound and not the newer third wave stuff. Bands I've already heard and like are

Hepcat, David Hillyard and the Rockstaeady 7, The Skatalites, Coldspot 8, Victor Rice, Dub is a Weapon, King Django, Skinnerbox, Rocker-T. And more that aren't coming to my mind right now. If anybody has more recommendations fo me it would be much appreciated. Thanks

hell yes! love this thread, the slackers are my favourite modern band, great taste!

traditional is the only way to mate, you've started well in the genre too, listening to some classic bands. here's a few recc's for ya from all over the time spectrum. i'll post a good 'starter' album for each, but it's worth checking out everything from most of them if you like the initial album mate:

hepcat - right on time
stubborn all-stars - back with a new batch
the aggrolites - the aggrolites (actually reggae, but ska fans love them)
pressure cooker - pressure cooker
fat freddy's drop - based on a true story
eastern standard time - second hand
the black seeds - on the sun
laurel aitkin - the high priest of reggae
skandalous all-stars - age of insects
the skatalites - ball of fire
prince buster - fabulous greatest hits
toots & the maytals - in the dark
desmond dekker - action!
new york ska jazz ensemble - low blow
wailing souls - fire house rock
victor ruggiero - alive at the ladybug house
chris murrey - one everything
the ethiopians - woman a capture man
the heptones - night food

any slackers fan is a mate of mine. hope ya find you enjoy some pf these & if you ever want more recc's or maybe go down the reggae path a bit more, or whatever, just give us a yell. enjoy!

you may also enjoy a little funk:
the meters - look-ka py py
wilson pickett - the very best of

You'd probably like Westbound Train.

I was just listening to Peculiar, I forgot how great this band is. best Slackers album? I need to hear what I've been missing.

so I'm not totally useless... check out Satori, The Soul Captives, and you might like The Bruce Lee Band. They all draw from a more traditional sound, not to mention they are super chill people.

Thanks for the recommendation, can't wait to hear these and further educate myself on this genre. As of right now I just can't get enough.
