Racing Kites is such a great band
I was recently at my friend's show at the Creepy Crawl here in St.Louis, and they opened up the show, and I was blown away, and got their EP, which is really great.
are you for real?

Good ideas guys and gals... Did you (staff) ever consider doing this as sort of a monthly thing? Someone mentioned a yearly thing, but for me it's hard to take in nearly 100 bands at one time... And if it's the same for others, they might not get around to all of them because it might be overwhelming... So did you guys consider something like maybe 10 new bands a month? Maybe that's already done, but I'm not sure where I'd find it in that case, haha...
Thanks for all your work anyway, it is incredibly appreciated, even if the best bands on the list I and others may have (both fortunately and unfortunately) already heard.
We thought about making it more than yearly. Monthly might be a tricky thing, especially since we have weekly recs. We may consider something more than just 1 time a year, pending the feedback is positive.
WOW! Michigan is soooo mis-represented Fireworks? Search The City? Every Avenue? I See Stars? Monument Monument?? ... instead Bedford Drive, Built For Burning & Radio Pirate DJ??? ARE YOU KIDDING. Yuck.

I haven't heard of the majority of these bands. but there are indeed a few really good ones on there like Fly Upright Kite, Dance Gavin Dance, Portugal The Man, Cassino, Damiera, The New Frontiers, and The Graduate (among a few others). I'm just over all of the "pop punk" bands. The Graduate is still the only one I've heard in a long time that can actually keep my attention.

Three or four real good ones btut in my opinion, this list lacks.
-Neon Horse
-Art Brut
-Band Of Horses
-The National
-Gallows
-Blaqk Audio
-Page France
-This Will Destroy You
-North
All up and coming bands that aren't the same stuff you hear everyday.
I'd def. have to agree with This Will Destroy You and Page France.

I can't wait to check out the bands on your list It will give me plenty to listen to for weeks. I'm also looking forward to check out some of the additions people posted in the replies, Thanks!
If I could add a band I would add Parade The Day's New CD To Keep Us Moving
They are a featured artist on www.smartpunk.com (http://www.smartpunk.com) and are on Warped tour check them out if you like bands like TBS or Something Corporate as they make good use of piano, and please don't assume they are some lame EMO/Scremo band just because of thier name.

I was going to put them on my list I set up but I think it was you that already mentioned them. I have never seen them live but their cd is fantastic. Bought it the day it came out. I think alot of the reason why I like them is because I LOVE horn instruments and they kinda remind me of a harder modern day Chicago.

Defiance, Ohio is awesome. Get their stuff on vinyl, sounds so good. Major props for Hot Cross & Jena Berlin as well.
We've had a lot of these bands on the list play here already, weird. Not really into any of them, but the list is neat, ya know. Good way for bands to expand their fan base and find people who do enjoy their sound.

I'm guessing that was Greg Dona?
Greg Dona is hilarious. I've only seen him post a handful of times, not in some time, though, and he seems to just review rap albums periodically. I remember when nobody thought he was a real person and I think somebody made a picture of the Loch Ness Monster with Greg Dona's head on it.

there is only one band on the list i dont think deserves it. holiday parade. they pretty much suck ass. especially live. the worlds most boring band live. i have unfortunately seen them 2 times live; only because they were playing with a band(s) i really liked. their EP is certainly nothing original by any means. they have some catchy riffs but that cant save them. the only reason why they get credit on this website is becasue one of the members of the band WORKS FOR THE WEBSITE. so yeah thats my rant about the subject. the list should also include: The Mile After, High Flight Society, Hot Rod Circuit and some more.

Oh, there's a defunct band on this list? Yeah they're really gonna get huge....
The majority of the list was made in March - at the time all bands were still together. Although they, and about 3 others have called it quits, it doesn't mean kids still can't check out their music and see what new projects the members of those bands are up to now.

We have 30 staff members - 10 or 20 wouldn't work since each staff member varies on their musical tastes - it'd be like asking a class of ADD-ridden kindergarten children to decide on one ice cream flavor or what they all want to do for playtime if we had a set number of 20 or so. With this method, majority of staff each picked 5 (some had more.) of what they were currently listening to that would appeal to users (knowing that they too, have a wide range in musical tastes.) Just because you happen to think Quietdrive, or other bands on this list "suck" doesn't mean others do as well. (See the 20+ pages of posts where kids were saying how happy they were certain bands were posted about - some posting even about Quietdrive.) and why are people naming bands that they already know? isnt this whole thing supposed to get people into music theyve never heard before? ive heard of a good number of these bands and instead of saying i wish so and so were on it, i would instead say i wish those bands i do know on the list weren't, and souly for the purpose that another band i havent heard of would have taken its place, thereby increasing my chances of finding a new band to fall in love with.

How's compiling a list of new music for kids to check out not a good idea? Seems to have done its job if you check out the comments in here, the forums, and on a number of the band's myspace pages and our own inboxes, so we'll take your 1 negative opinion since we got numerous positive - can't please every single person.

Scenes is well on their way to getting the recognition they deserve and have worked for but The Apprentice rarely gets noticed even though they consistently release great albums, hopefully more people grab a copy of their albums thanks to this list!

I think it's safe to say you're the one with the inability to read. No one said it was. Chill.
no but it was insenuated that i said the list was stupid...which i didnt....and that i was wrong for not agreeing with it. look i frequent this site so i obviously enjoy the different aspects of it. all i said was that i thought there were better bands. maybe im' right maybe im' wrong....its all opinion. but getting ragged for disagreeing is stupid.

the fact that a few of the staff replied to my comment in a negative way seems silly to me. to me that does insenuate something....that they feel threatened in the fact that i don't have the same musical taste. maybe thats not what they meant but it's stupid to get on my ass cause i don't think the bands on the list are good for the most part. as ive said repeatedly i think this list was a good idea. the time spent on it is respected. i dig this site and catch up every day and will continue to do so.

This is an awesome list, my only obvious add-on would be The Morning Light, a band I have seen many AP staffers sing the praises of.

The Day After... - Hailing from Las Vegas, an environment that has bred synthesizer-based bands The Killers and Panic! at the Disco, among others, this band does not need a keyboard to enhance their sound as they make dynamic music that succeeds wildly where so many other bands have recently failed. Though it may sound like other bands that you've heard before, you're going to be left wanting more of this indie-rock hybrid. The vocals on their album, A Different Way To Get By, soar alongside the crashing instruments and mesh together to create controlled cacophony that truly conveys emotion that other bands lack. If you're looking for something new, yet something familiar, this is a band you should listen to.
im assuming this was your work, Anton?
Nicely done. youve done more for this band than I ever could have asked.
I'm pretty sure I saw this on HTO's forums...
or PJ Perez's work...I know I've seen this review before.
None the less...it needed to be printed...and not just by me.
Maybe the label could....ya know...promote them...seeing as how they've "never lost any money on signing anyone."

Steve and everyone else from Ap.net-
Thank you for making this list. I use this website to keep up on music that might be new to my ears. So far you have introduced me to tons of great bands that I would have never listened to. Sure, I have some disagreements about the list, but come on, there are 100 names on there and that will keep me busy for a long time. Although, the time and effort to put a list like this together might have taken longer. Thank you for providing something like this!

I really appreciate the Avett Brothers being put on here. Being from Charlotte, I have seen them a few times, and I can honestly say that they put on one of the best live shows I've ever seen.
Yep...they are incredible...and any rock/punk fan would appreciate their sound no question. I get to see them for the third time October 6th, and this time one of my friend's from college is opening for them, so hopefully I get to meet them...some of my friends have met them and said they are just incredible guys.
A lot of bands I like it when they stay smaller...because when bands blow up, you seem to lose them (FOB, TAI, Cartel...the list is pretty long)...but, The Avett Brothers are one of those rare bands I want to share with everyone, because I think everyone would love them

Lorien (http://www.myspace.com/lorienmusic) - Taking wide influences from groups like Gatsbys American Dream and Muse, these Nashville rockers are ready to take the Midwest by storm. Their lyrics are catchy, their set is fun, and they know how to keep fans coming back night after night. It's really time for this quartet to come out of the tracks of its Midwestern dirt and shine.
Tennessee is not the midwest..... look at a fucking map people.
Great band though
The Stiletto
