I'm going with TDH

The Dear Hunter and it isn't even close at all.
The better match up is Act II vs. BTHATS (TREOS's highly superior product)

Whoever chooses TREOS has probably never heard Act II.

I would choose TREOS if it was just BTHATS, but since that album was basically only made because Casey was in TREOS, then I'm going with The Dear Hunter, because I like Casey's writing style over the rest of TREOS.

The Dear Hunter is hand down better. Way more interesting and Act II is jam packed with ideas. TREOS is very redundant.

TREOS with casey...> TDH. TREOES without casey...< TDH

True, I just wanted to see what people thought about the two bands and the different styles of music that emerged after Casey's departure so I figured I'd go with the two albums that came out this year.

The Dear Hunter all the way.

I like the dear hunter more than anything treos has done(with or without casey)

I just feel like since casey had the freedom to make music without having to compromise with other band members it came out a lot more talented and creative.

i cant get into either of them.

TDH but I think TREOS did a great job without Casey

You need to have a Christians & Lions option,

that is the best project/band that spun off Treos by far.

No, that statement is not even applicable to any context.
I like Ben as much as the next guy, but C&L doesn't compare to TREOS, let alone The Dear Hunter.

And I don't think either C&L or TDH qualify as spin-offs since both are just project by temporary lead singers.

C&L is much better than both. Open your ears and quit being tone deaf.

Well, I'm relatively sure I have the overwhelming majority on my side. In fact, I bet you'd be pressed to find more than 2 or 3 members that will agree on that laughable claim. There's a reason that TREOS didn't get famous until Casey replaced Ben.

i could be wrong with this comment, but wasnt a lot of the first treos album written before casey was in the band? it doesnt matter to me either way, i love both the albums, and have yet to listen to Act II, i wasnt a big fan of the first one, so i am not sure if i want the new one, but i hear good things, so i might as well give it a shot.....

the TREOS demos (The Race, The Art of Subversion, Shirtsleeves, etc.) were created without Casey but I'm pretty sure that Casey was the dominant composer in BTHATS.

And Act II is worlds better than Act I (I didn't like the first either).

Totally false. From the man himself:

The band didnt have 1/2 a record written when I found my way into the band. The music written at the time of my entrance was part of what became the 5 song EP which was self released, keeping in mind the 2 transitional tracks were tracks written and recorded by me in andrew's basement. The only complete song was the art of subversion.

The songs written with me in the group, of which I put tremendous amount of effort into were Prologue, Planning a Prison Break, The Rival Cycle, The Evidence (written in the studio during the recording of BTHATS), Then I defy you, stars, Intermission (based on a transition from the ep, and recorded and produced by me in spare time at the studio), This Armistice (started as a transition they used to play live called indian burial ground, and changed around, at one point we were trying to use the dear hunter song "camera" for part of it- and when I wrote the chorus for armistice- the guys initially didnt care for it), Broadcast Quality, Flee The factory, Venona, and Epilogue (which was originally entirely sequenced by me at a practice early on)...

Also, my involvement with lyrics- The songs I gave a great deal of lyrics to were - The rival cycle, the evidence, then i defy you stars, this armistace, broadcast quality, flee the factory, venona. I gave a few lines here and there to others, but that list of songs includes all the tracks for which brendan and I sat and wrote together.

I applaud this post. Dead Men Tell No Tales may is by far the best Casey-less song; after that, it gets sloppy.

thank you......i thought i read somewhere on here something about some of the songs being done before hand, but thank you for clarifying that.....i love both of the cds, and apparently i have to check out Act II....and hopefully i will form an accurate statement when i listen to that

the first part is correct, the second is not. it's easy to assume that casey was the driving force behind BTHATS-treos, because their sound changed so much. but the bottom line is that it was a completely collaborative effort and casey was a 1/5 equal part of it.

people still tend to either give casey too much or not enough credit for BTHATS. in the past i may have been slightly guilty of both, but i just wish people would now take a step back and realize that all 5 members of that version of the band were all talented now what we have is two awesome bands. this was such a difficult decision for me because both bands are favorites of mine. but TESMFM hasn't left my cd player since the day it came out. but i could also say the same of Act II when it came out in may.

Woah, Casey is easily for than one fifth. Considering he handled lead vocals, guitar, keys, lyrics, and much of the production, he was by far the most important.

I really dislike the new dear hunter stuff, but I found act 1 and the demos boring as well. Something just isn't there. I love both treos albums, so them hands down.

The people that say the ones that pick don't pick TREOS obviously haven't heard act 2, that's ridiculous. I don't like the style of this band. I don't like Casey's voice either.
