what do you guys think is the most important instrument in a band?
here's mine:
emo - the girl.....i know it's not an instrument, but if she didnt dump the guy, he wouldnt be so freaking depressed. get over it buddy
punk - the video camera.....how else would simple plan and good charlotte have become popular?...by their MUSIC?! haha....oh wait, i forgot they arent punk.
political punk - The government...see emo, above, and just substitute in govt for emo....and "it didnt piss off" for "she didnt dump"....so, in conclusion, political punk is just emo.
alternative/grunge - the Needle....how else are they going to get their drugs?
straight edge - The Needle....can you think of a better to sneak your drugs?
Rap - wait a second, there are no instruments in rap
anyway...thats my list....obviously, im just kidding around, so dont get offended....i like every type of music or group i just put up there, so in no way am i really ripping on the bands or groups that play it.

not entirely sure what this thread is about but to me the most imporant instrument in all of music would be THE PIANO mostly because its pretty much the basis for all other insturments really and sooo many kick ass classical pieces were made using the piano...yeah...

if i was really going to pick one instrument, though, that i think is most important to a band....im gonna go with the bass.
any song lacking a bass would suck....i dont like the white stripes, theyre songs all sound the same and its because theyre missing a bass....theres only so much you can do without one.
i think something that makes or breaks a band is the abilty of the bass player. he doesnt have to be great, but he has to be good.
Drums are really importand and underrated also. Other than that, I'd say guitar. Electric is my fave....

To tell you the truth, its the only song I've never heard by them. I put that on there because it's so damn elusive. And congrads, you're the first to ACTUALLY understand that line! you rock.....

the most important is def. drums (and this is coming from a guitar player) thats why in most songs the drums are the first thing you hear. the drums start up and then everything else follows

Hmm, yeah i dont know, a song can start with the guitar and then the drums come in.
But i agree that the drums are the most important, they are the foundation of the song, structure, rythm, tempo changes. all the other instruments feed off of what the drums are giving them.

Definetlly. I end up hearing the guitars before the drums normally. Well, except in the new Thursday record, the drums are very interegral with them, and I like it that way.

I'm a bass player, and I think that Im pretty damn good. But even I will admit, when your playing with a full band, the drums are the most important, because if the drummer messes up, the whole song is finished right there.
