#5 Everyone Plays Intramural Sports
#6 Students Pack the Stadiums

the rankings system is total BS...

anyhow, mine ranks (predictably) in most diverse student body, best in northeast, best value. im not registering to find out exactly where, but it generally gets the same reviews in every college guide. all i care about is the anthropology dept, which is one of the best in the state, east coast and nation.

yeah it seems to be a bull shit list...jmu should def be up there for party scene. i have been to my fair share of colleges including rutgers and psu and neither compare on a good night at jmu. literally hundreds of apartment parties with no fee to get in. freaking incredible.

#6: students dissatisfied with fin aid
#16: lots of beer
#5: best campus food

also: best southeastern college list, americas best value colleges, and colleges with a conscience.

i'm kinda mad wisconsin dropped out of the party school rankings, but at least we're still #1 in beer. though i don't know about the newspaper one... #16 for the largest circulated independent college paper in america? i mean, hell, we're the only school that has two student newspapers.

that's right, we can't brag about parties anymore... but we'll make up for it in editorials.

Not on the list at all, but that's to be expected. We're really small. But I know that we have the largest Welsh language library in the United States, we're a big deal when it comes to economic crime/cybercrime and we've got some really disdinguished faculty members. Woo for bolded #1, boo for bolded #2. :(

One thing I don't get, Columbia is #1 for great college towns, Barnard is #3, and even Cooper is down at #20, but NYU is #12? I don't get it, who would rather be all the way uptown at Columbia/Barnard instead of down by NYU/Cooper? Weird.

It's on the Princeton Review website, but you need to register/login.
It looks like you're only ranked for Jock Schools at #19.

Haha, this is so true. It's taken me forever to get things sorted out with financial aid for this semester. All that money being spent on the Abu Dhabi campus leaves slim pickings for everything else.

If you over analyze it, you could say that because of the great financial aid Ohio University provides, students have more money to spend on alcohol.

i'm an incoming freshman, so i haven't experienced this yet or anything. i'm excited though.

I've always wondered how you can rank quality of life, and how they compile these lists. Since you're done with your first year now, do you agree with the list from last year? (someone else revived this, so I figured why not ask.)

well to quote the site itself, this is what they base the quality of life score on:
"Based on responses from students to several questions covering food on and off-campus, dorm comfort, campus beauty, ease of getting around campus, relationship with the local community, campus safety, the surrounding area, interaction between students, friendliness and happiness of the student body and smoothness with which the school is administered."

i personally am really happy with washu in all the categories it was ranked in. food on-campus is great, a lot of options as far as types of food and there's something nearby no matter where on campus you are. And washu pays for your public transportation incase you want to go elsewhere.
the dorms are awesomeee... the new dorms are amazing, and even the old dorms are nicer than the dorms in some of the schools i visited.
and of course people have their complaints about the school, but for the most part everyone seems really happy to be there.
the financial aid is so excellent... the dpt is really willing to help. the school does run really smoothly, and is really organized with things it puts together, but administration is kind of slow to get back to messages and such. umm what else... well as far as that quality of life rating description goes: campus is really nice... dorms are completely separated from academic buildings which is really nice. campus is totally walkable, plus a shuttle circulates every 10 minutes or something like that. i've never had a problem with safety, but i'm always really careful, keeping in mind st. louis is not known for being the safest city, ha. surrounding area is great, lots of nice neighborhoods for running, forest park right across the street (huge! free zoo and museum too :)). and people really are friendly, at least compared to miami.

WOW that was long, sorry! but yeah, i really am pleased with washu considering the rankings. and i'm really happy as far as academics go also.
