I don't hate Thrice. Seeing as I only pay attention to the music and don't know any band personally, I don't HATE bands. I HATE one of my supervisors at work. Real douche wad.

Anyway, back to Thrice. I don't like their music. I just can't get into the band. I have really tried. I have tons of friends who love this band. Yet, I can not seem to take anything away from listening to this band. I'm not real big on screaming so that might be why. However, even the slower stuff on their last release didn't do it for me. I do like the what I've heard from the singer's solo project though. Need to listen that again. Later. . . .

that, and, i think thrice is kind of overrated. i mean, we all know identity crisis was fucking boss tits, but its been all downhill from there, IMO.

its like they are just drifting further and further away from what was so good about them in the first place and moving in this weird, pretentious direction that i just dont get.

well, my main point is that country can be amazing. just not Toby Keith. take her love of country and find some music that blends the country style with a more punk asthetic. theres tons of it. a suprising amount of people have never listened to against me's EPIC acoustic EP. seems like a sweet compromise to me. or reconstruction site by the weakerthans. dont count out all country because travis tritt is a douche.

i understand the people on this website. its just weird that thrice is such a sacred cow on here.

This is actually quite a good point. Mike Ness and Social Distortion were always good with some blending therein, and I love that stuff. And even further down, Ryan Adams and Neko Case are quite good. After Kenny Chesney a million times though, it's all shot to hell anyway.

I was actually just debating whether to spend my last emusic downloads on The Weakerthans or the new Minus The Bear.

I've had the opposite problem, I didn't like Thrice very much up to and including some of AITA. They had some sweet technical instrumental work since they've started, the vocals were pretty sweet in AITA but before hand I thought Dustin's voice kinda sucked. Since then, they've showed off incredible and much much more versitile instrumental skills, Dustin's turned into one of my favorite vocalists, and the whole band has shown immense talent and intellegence. I've grown to like some of the older stuff but I can't listen to most of identity crisis.

I don't think they are pretentious or trying to hard because they are good enough to pull it off.

well, at least your logic is solid. its all opinion, but its just weird to see someone start with artist... considering i bought it the day it came out and ended up selling it back to the record store that afternoon i was so dissapointed.

and IMO, pretentiousness has nothing to do with talent. and if it did, i would expect someone like the flaming lips or radiohead or even sufjan stevens to attempt something like the elements. it just seems to "big" for them.

the reason why it's so hard to get into thrice is because dustin has such a horrid voice. it's raspy and gritty and might sound good in some country song. seriously, lay the raspy screams over some one-sided punk music (punk drumming) and you have identity crisis and the illusion of safety.

however, the musicianship from artist in the ambulance on is just so fantastic it's hard to ignore it. listen to the riffs on under a killing moon or the abolition of man.

there is alot wrong with music today but thrice is not one of them. each album is drastically different, constantly changing their style, reinventing thrice. i love it all.
