The wonderful city of Norfolk. Let me tell you. Great food, awesome view of the Elizabeth River, and good venues. But the one that tends to stand out the most is non other than The Norva. This is where I frequently partake in my concert festivities. So it was no suprise to me that the Drive Thru Recods Invansion Tour would be making a stop there.
Walking into the Norva, I hear the sounds of The Early November. I've never seen or have I hear of them. I tend to think of myself as a hip person, but I felt just darn right stupid for know of such a great band. I stood back row and just got a feel for their music. Took a listen to what the lyrics were saying, and who the beats flowed with it. Good set I must say. The fellas made a good first impression on me with thier music and thier personalities, except Sirgie. Alittle on the conceded side, but a nice, funny guy.
After The Early November was a personal favorite of mine, Senses Fail. I saw these guys when there were on tour with Reggie and the Full Effect. I feel in love right then and there. I worked my into the crowd and ran into some friends. Good set as always, they still haven't disappointed me. I can not wait until I see them in Novemeber. I better get my glasses back Nic!
Third up was Allister. What's not to like. Allister was one of my first shows I've seen. It took me awhile to like these guys, and I'm glad I do now. They played old and new songs and it was just wonderful. They made the concert feel more intimate then the other bands did. They acknowledged everyone it seemed. Even though there was close to 1,500 people there, they made it feel as though they were playing for you.
Fourth up to bat was non other than Home Grown. I had only seen Home Grown once before and this time they really captured me. They sang great, they played great, it was great. No complants on this side of the spectrum.
Up last was the one, the only The Strating Line. Awesome. They played old favorites and new accositc songs. Either way, the crowd loved them and so did I. Never, not once in all the times I have seen them live, have they ever performed badly. Even with Mike having Verdigo, they did well. The energy coming from the band and feeding into the crowd was so great that even the merch people had to get a piece of the action.
After the show was a barbardment of fans flooding the merch counters making it utterly impossible to get out. There was no choice but to hang out inside the venue. After a couple of drinks and talking to a few people that noticed me along the way, I finally headed out. The nite was far from over and the fun was far from done. But as for the concert, it deserves 4.3 stars in my book. If the Drive Thru Invansion Tour should happen to come near you, go. You will not regret it.
