Record Label: Self-Released
Release Date: April 2007

Who?

Northern Room is another reason why reviewing is such a hard thing to do and why the people doing it are usually jaded pricks (no offense to my esteemed colleagues). Oh yeah, they're another thoughtful rock band.

How Is It?

Normal logic would point to me liking these guys. And truly, Only Seconds isn’t bad, mostly due to its supercharged drum fills and perfectly husky vocals. Mute Math do it better. And Benzos do it better. “For All These Years” may escalate into a marathon of harmonies, but the aftertaste of excessive and forceful atmospherics makes the medicine a bit hard to take. So I may not love Only Seconds, but remember, I’m a sardonic dimwit. Eh, I’m not so bad. Northern Room is talented, too. But, all the "buts" in this review should be a clear sign: your efforts to make Only Seconds click will probably be in vain.

Recommended If You Like: Mute Math, Benzos, Iron Chef, Angels and Airwaves, Top Chef, me constantly using lame food analogies

wow. I didn't think anyone else knew who Northern Room was..I'm going to see them tonight open up for another popular local band for about the 5th time. I do agree with your review though.

Blake: I am really surprised you did not like them more. I listened to them over and over again. Of course, I like Mute Math and Benzos. However, your review does state that they are talented, have a marathon of harmonies and perfectly husky lyrics. Those are all positive things in my book so that may be why they clicked with me.

WOWWWWW, A Linda post! Its too bad I didn't like them more, though. I mean, yeah they are good, but ive heard it all too much and done much better. I guess my standards for this type of rock are too high. I'm an idiot!
