If there's a band that you're really digging, and everything costs the same price, which would you prefer to buy?

If I'm not familiar with the band, I usually download. If I like the band enough/have the money, I go out and buy the CD. If not, I usually end up seeing them at a show anyways. So my money usually goes to them somehow.

I discovered a lot of bands by downloading some of their songs. When I really like what I hear, I go out and buy the CD.

everyone who voted for the oink option is a moron... and so is the poll maker. there's no better way to get a site like that taken down... and give the RIAA and whole load of new people to sue than advertising its existence all over the internet.

honestly, i wouldn't mind if that site got taken down. in fact, i'd be happy about it.

I buy, and buy used. Paying $5, even for a CD I wind up not loving, isn't that bad to me. Amazon Used ftw.

vinyl all the way. in my opinion the sound is better than cd, the artwork is just so much bigger with more detail, and the value of vinyl in the long run is so much more than cd's or anything else.

so if you can buy vinyls i highly recommend it.

If it's a band I absolotely love I'll buy the cd. If they happen to release a cool picture disc or colored vinyl, I'd probably pick that up too.

I never download, I always buy the CD. Downloading doesn't give you the CD case, and I like to look at the case ... I know that's quite weird.

Although downloading is super convenient, I am definitely trying to get back into buying more CDs. I always try to buy the CD when its a smaller touring band.

I wish the vinyl with a digital code enclosed would take over (Check out Saddle Creek vinyl and others). It's an awesome collector's thing and you get the digital files.

CD's all the way.

My friend sometimes rips me CD's. If I really like them, I then go out and buy them.

I love buying CD's simply for the value of the purchase. I don't get a dozen mp3's - I get a CD with a dozen songs on, a lyric book complete with artwork and a CD case too.

Also, I take chances on buying the cds. If I don't like it - what the hell? Just a bad purchase really.

If I do like it then bingo!

I use both iTunes and CDs. But CDs are when I really care about the band, or when I'm in the mood to go out to Target or wherever. I use online streams to hear it first - no risk of lawsuits and no file ratios to keep up.

im pretty sure even the RIAA knows about oink
its even been published in .. wasnt it blender magazine's top 25 most influential people in music?
tho the site creator has kept an extremely low profile to keep himself out of trouble
and from what i hear its a pretty damn secure network

I buy all my cds unless it isn't out in stores where i live nor digitally to buy. Then I ether use purevolume to stay happy with the band or find some of their songs elsewhere till I can buy it.

However, I hate this re-release crap. If I am supporting your cd since day one but then you come out with a SUPER EXTRA VERSION 6 months later, I am getting those bonus songs.

I download (usually from iTunes, although I do snag the free downloads from Purevolume or a band's MS when I can) when I am trying to see if I like a band enough to buy their CD. I buy a song or two and if I like it, I buy the actual CD. If I don't like it, then it's not like I wasted $15 on it, just $1 or $2.

I like to wake up on release day and pick up the albums I want off of itunes so I can listen to them while I am at work all day. Convience factor... I totally understand why people still want cd's though.

If I find a band that I like on myspace or purevolume, I'll look on ebay to see if I can buy it cheap. If not, I'll check around with my friends to see if anyone has the CD I could borrow or just buy it on iTunes. I never download music illeglally off of the internet.
