album artwork

Ever notice how big album artwork is getting? I personally love the change, it makes a new disc such a bigger and better package. Take for example the new Thursday, Thrice, AFI (special edition), and even Linkin Park. All of them, the artwork expresses the theme of the album even greater than the music can. I can't help but flip through the Thrice booklet even when I'm not listening! I know that was kinda pointless, but I just wanted to point that out.

yea the booklet is the best part of the cd.. but i havent experienced opening/buying a cd in such a long time due to kazaa and cd burning..

Dude, have you seen the booklet to that!?!?!? It's like fucking 40 pages long!

And it sucks if you don't buy ANY cds. I do equal burning and buying, depending on how much I like it and how long I can listen.

i buy lots of merch and go to alot of shows local or big ones

dont flame on me just cuz i dont support the record industry because i think its total bullshit. it cost like 50 cents to make a cd they charge 20 bucks fuck that

It may cost 50 cents to make the cd, but what about all the album artwork, cases, booklets, distributing, promotion, etc.? Plus, I've never bought a cd for $20, I haven't bought a cd in the past year that costs more than $12, and I usually but 1-2 cd's a week.

Yea, I remember those. That was actually pretty cool. I bought the chalk on the street one, I wasn't wild about the one that won. And what's so wrong with linkin park people? they have damn good artwork thats for sure.

You should at least support the band by buying the cd. You should be supporting the labels too. It's the major labels that give the bands a hard time, the smaller ones do the best they can to give their bands the best. Look at labels like Kung Fu, Equal Vision, Triple Crown, and others. Merch doesn't go that far, its the music that keeps a band going.

for a college kid that is on his own it is hard to buy cds. someone here said they buy 1-2 cds a week damn dude sorry but mommy and daddy dont love me that much.

and i love all my favorite bands to death.. you think theyd rather me buy a cd than attend their show and interact with them? i seriously doubt that. most bands are about the love.. unless you listen to limp bizkit or linkin park.

Back to the original topic, this can even be related to the recent (and unfortunate) movielife breakup. Remember the original version of the cd cover, that couldn't be sold in stores because it had blood on it or something? Cool shit right there. Even the cover that made it onto shelves was cool. Does anyone have a picture of the original cd covers of 40hourtrain? There was also one, like the current one, with the "movielife" label painted in blood, that one was cool too. Damn, one really big paragraph....

Does anyone have pics of those? I need them for my collection....:D

really? I live around there, My band plays there at the Village Pub sometimes. I live around the Massapequa area. Woo Hoo for Long Island. Also the coolest artwork as of late was def, new Thrice (the Limited one), Thursday, and On the Might Of Princes. (If you dont have OTMOP cd, go get it or DL it then get it....its so worth it. That's cool. I haven't gone there for a show yet, i heard it was pretty small. I passed by Port Jazz the other night and some band was doin a fucking cover of Good Charlotte. It was pretty clean though, better than the original!

Funny how you mentioned OTMOP, horray for LI, even though it sucks living here. So damn boring. The music scene is the only good thing about it here.

yeah i know what you mean when you say that the artwork with cds has become a big issue but maybe it is what they are doing now to give the fans more reasons to buy the cd instead of burning a copy...like making them more "worth while" maybe?
