New Found Glory – From The Screen To Your Stereo Part II
Release Date: September 18, 2007
Record Label: Drive Thru
The majority of movies that make a lot of money at the box office are followed up with a sequel: Jurassic Park, Spider-Man, Star Wars, etc. New Found Glory, a band that has already accomplished many things, are trying to make this concept work on record. So, the Coral Springs, Florida, quintet hopped into their De Lorean, signed with the label who jump started their career (Drive Thru for this one record deal), and created the sequel to the fan-favorite 2000 EP, From The Screen To Your Stereo.
This time around, NFG recorded an entire album’s worth of covers from famous movies, such as Donnie Darko, The Breakfast Club, and Napoleon Dynamite. The album also features a large list of guests, featuring the likes of Chris Carrabba, Max Bemis, Will Pugh, Patrick Stump, Adam Lazzara, Sheri Dupree, and Lisa Loeb. The end result is eleven covers that perfectly display the band at their finest: energy, fun, and full out effort. The production of Thom Panunzio (whom produced 2006’s Coming Home) and the band is nearly perfect. You won’t find a better cover album on the market.
NFG takes all eleven covers and inject their signature sound that thousands have come to know and love. “The King Of Wishful Thinking,” originally performed by Go West and appearing on Pretty Woman, features great tandem vocals from Jordan Pundik and Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump. Adam Lazzara of Taking Back Sunday fame lends his voice to the seductive cover of “Love Fool,” while Max Bemis belts it out on “Crazy For You.” And of course, each track features bombastic guitar work from Chad Gilbert and Steve Klein, as well as tight drumming from Cyrus Bolooki.
The band nicely recreates the anthemic feeling of “Don’t You Forget About Me,” adding in a few screams from Gilbert. NFG tries their hand at the Goo Goo Dolls beautiful track, “Iris,” which NFG gives a good effort. Will Pugh’s vocals are underwhelming, but musically, NFG brings out the passion from the original recording very well. My absolute favorite song is the cover of Lisa Loeb’s “Stay,” in which Loeb lends her voice to the cover of her own song. It’s extremely cool, and the chemistry between her voice and Pundik’s is immaculate.
Some people will complain about New Found Glory recording a covers album instead of working on new material, but after hearing the energy and attitude of Part II, you’ll be glad New Found Glory did this. Really, this album is for us, the fans. It’s an album where we can flashback to the early days of NFG, when most of us were getting into their music. This is a great covers album, and will be perfect for those long road trips. So even though New Found Glory may be growing older, they’ll never be outgrown by their fans nor will they ever forsake their fans. From The Screen To The Stereo Part II proves that.

Solid review.
Great review. Can't wait to get this.

decent review, i don't see how this warrants a 8.5 on creativity, NFG bascially took the pre-written songs, sped up the tempo and threw in some power chords....

I think Will's vocals are awesome on "Iris." That's the only dispute I have with this review.

Its a fun album overall, but the song selection is incredibly inferior to that of the FTSTYS. Feels more like just a cover album than a movie song cover album. I don't associate "stay", "kiss me" or even "the promise" with movies, just as being popular songs from years past.

oh it says 8.5? It's supposed to be 7.5.

I don't know what it is but I just can't stand Jordan's vocals on any of NFG's songs or any of these covers. I try to give them a chance time and time again but I can't get past the fact that it sounds like he's plugging his nose when he sings.

it took me a little bit of time to get over it, but once i did I enjoyed the cd a lot. Its definitely a fun cd to listen to.
The only gripe I have w/ the cd is on "King of Wishful Thinking" they should have let Patrick Stump have a bigger part in singing in the song. I think his voice would have been great for the ending part.

The truth is that you wouldn't have even heard Kiss Me or Stay had they not been in She's All That and Reality Bites (respectively).
I do agree that the song selection on this one is inferior from the first. In all honesty, they should have just made it an ep like the last one and cut out the filler. The cover of "Don't You Forget About Me" is horrid. I love this band and all but that one cover I skip every time. Overall I give this album a 6 out of 10 and just hope that when i see them next they bust out Glory Of Love so I can relive my youth, seeing them in a catering hall and the stage being crowded with people screaming along.

I really love the way that they covered 80s and 90s soundtrack songs...it kinda reminds me of the soundtrack to MY life growing up...and even though back then a lot of the songs were overplayed and got annoying, NFG really recreates them in a more appealing way. I mean come on, original "Kiss me" =boring. NFG's version... =hella catchy!!!

im sure this will be a fun, catchy album but i'd still rather hear new NFG instead. I'm kind've bummed that Thom helped produce this one since he did Coming Home too. I'm not crazy about that album so I still got that "Coming Home" feeling on a lot of the songs.
Nonetheless, I'll still pick up the album to hold myself over as I wait for new stuff.

I agree that it's weird being placed in the middle, but they should have left the track off completely. Far and away the worst song on the record, it doesn't come near the original.

This is such a fun album. It's a throwback to my middle school days.
The only gripe I have is with people bashing the song selection, if memory serves me right they let the fans suggest/pick the songs on their myspace. I'm sure they had the final say in what went on and what did not, but this album was for the fans in many aspects.
I think Will's vocals are awesome on "Iris." That's the only dispute I have with this review.
Agreed. Also the screaming in "Don't You Forget About Me" is atrocious IMO.

They let the fans pick all the songs, so it's OUR fault if you don't like the selection.

I agree with the comments about the cover of "Don't You Forget About Me." Very forgetable and definately my least favorite on the cd. But all the other songs are simply amazing!
i love the amélie soundtrack, i didn't know NFG was covering one of the songs.
i might have to give it a listen.

NFG and Drive-Thru once again prove that they are the greatest combo of all time..
no complaining, i'm so glad they released that, guest vocals are awesome, i dn't know how can will's voice bo so bad in so many opinions, it's normal! some songs are pretty sick, especially king of wishful thinking
I can't even hear Chris Carrabba in "The Promise." What does he sing?
and yeah, second that. nothing about it in the review, maybe no one can hear it hah? i hear some parts that it might be him, but it might be jordan as weel, don't know

I agree that it's weird being placed in the middle, but they should have left the track off completely. Far and away the worst song on the record, it doesn't come near the original.
Agreed that it should have been left off. Ironically, one of the songs that really is from a movie soundtrack is the worst cover. When telling friends about this album, I simply refer to it as a cover album because I think that's a far more accurate title.
I'm so pumped for this. Didn't it leak a couple of days ago?
It actually leaked September 6.
This may be the dumbest post in the history of mankind.
First of all, the post wasn't that dumb. It was silly, but it wasn't that dumb. And I almost made a remark about how you hadn't been on the forum long enough to make that statement until I read the tag under your name. C'mon...you know you've seen way worse than that...and good to see you're back...again...
Never mind, I didn't see this one.
I'm not gonna lie, I laughed aloud when I read that. :-D

The only pop-punk band that matters these days. Yeah, I said it.

maybe its myspace but king of wishful is horrible. the screaming makes it worse.
the only thing i dont like about this album was the way they did "iris" and how it was too close ot the original or they way i remember it being, BUT will's vocals do make it a bit better.
still a good cd overall.

It's an old saying from before all that. It's origins are currently unknown.
I like the record. It was fun. I don't feel the need to get analytical on what is suppose to be a fun record (i.e. the guitar on the second bridge after the third chorus would sound better if the flange was at an interval of point one eight and not zero point nine but other than that it was ok - type of thing).
Play it loud with windows down and enjoy until their next release.

Wow, I'm really surprised at all the critiques the album and the review itself. Honestly, has anyone listened to it? Maybe I have a different listening technique, but what I see from this album is a twist on classic movie hits--they have all been infused with a more upbeat rock structure, and I believe it makes them more better than the originals. I may seem biased, but I'm really not that big of a NFG fan. I think the glory-sonf of the album is "King of Wishful Thinking"--I had always liked the original, but the cover is 100% better. Furthermore, if any other band tries to cover these songs in the future, I truly think they will have a difficult time in doing better than NFG.

Under normal circumstances I would be 100% against putting a cover album on my top 10 albums of the year, but this is just so good. Every song is just as catchy as the previous one, and once you put it in the CD player you have to listen to the whole thing. Props to Patrick Stump in "King of Wishful Thinking" as well...his contributing vocals made that song one of the best on the album.
EDIT: Also, if you are going to rate this album on here...DON'T rate the lyrics!

Pretty sure NFG never left Drive-Thru. They had a joint deal between Drive-Thru and Geffen (MCA when they signed with them) from 2002-2007. They just split with Geffen and decided to stick with their indie label for awhile until another major comes along that they deem worthy.

Yup, he sings the last and second to last chorus, and it sounds like hes doing backing vocals for the other choruses ("i promise you" in the background). Best track on the album for me.
