I wouldnt be surprised to find out Movielife are gone because of Drive Thru. Think about it. Remember how a fan reported seeing movielife"s amps saying "Drop us now". The Movielife were also the only band on Drive Thru that showed support for Midtown. I think drive thru and or Geffen gave the movielife more motivation to quit than we are seeing.

I highly doubt it.

Why would they quit just because of drive-thru. They could have easily just gone to another label.

If you were unhappy what would you do?
Stay in the place that is making you unhappy or leave. I think they saw this as there only way out.

If they wanted to move to another label that badly, I'm sure they would have found some way to do it. I doubt they were that weak that an argument with drive-thru would break up the band.

Wasn't there another sticker on the amp for another label? I think it was equal vision or something. I don't know, maybe it was a different incident.

Here's my personal speculation on the matter:

Ever since Geffen Records took the place of the late MCA Records, Geffen has been advertising and promoting all of the Drive-Thru bands. Formerly, MCA only DISTRIBUTED the Drive-Thru releases, they did not promote them at all (with the exception of NFG, Finch, and SoCo, this is because these three bands were co-signed to Drive-Thru/MCA, now Drive-Thru/Geffen, the rest of the bands have always been ONLY on Drive-Thru)

However, once MCA fell and Geffen took its place, Geffen has been promoting all of the DTR bands as though they were their own.

Now The Movielife had always had a very "underground" mentality. That is, they shunned major labels and commercialism to the utmost. If Geffen dances in and decides that they want to promote The Movielife and make them all mainstream-like, that could really brush the band the wrong way.

Now, the only way to get out of the mess and stay together as a band would be to leave Drive-Thru and Geffen altogether, but that would mean turning their backs on Drive-Thru Records, Richard and Stephanie Reines, who have been like parents to them, and made sacrifices for them.

So the only other alternative is to break up.

Personally, I probably wouldn't have the balls to break up for the sole purpose of avoiding mainstream commercialism, but The Movielife had always had very adamant values on the matter, and I find it very noble of them not to forget who they are and what they believe.

Remember that this is my own personal speculation, and may or may not be true.

I def agree with this theory, I think the changes that Drive Thru are going under are not the same changes The Movielife would like to take and they cant go onto another label because I would not be surprized if Drive Thru signed a multi-cd deal with them, then keeping them at Drive Thru unless a label fought a legal battle to free them from the contract or buy them out and I dont think any label intrested to maybe buying them would ever want to face Geffen and it's legal team with all the money they have. I will truly miss The Movielife, they have done so much for the scene and for me personally. Everyone of them are the best bunch of guys you'll ever meet and it was always about the fans with them. The Punk Scene Loves them, Long Island Loves them and I love them.....You will be missed Movielife....R.I.P.

Wow, now I'm proud to have that there.

How about instead of "R.I.P. Movielife", we say "Good-bye Movielife"...?
