The Apathy Eulogy - Beauty For Ashes
Record Label - Unsigned
Release Date - April 9, 2007
Who:
Beauty For Ashes is the quasi debut for this five piece from Baltimore, Maryland. I say “quasi” because the band released their actual debut album, Things Hoped For, Things Unseen, as a trio and this is the band’s first album with the new line-up.
How Is It?
Beauty For Ashes is a collection of acoustic-centric songs with occasional subtle synthesizer accents. The album was released in April which was a great move by the band because Beauty For Ashes is the sort of light, carefree album that people turn to as the weather begins to get warmer. The lyrics on this album occasionally play into the stereotypes most people associate with bands who opt for the acoustic-based pop sound, but the upbeat and energetic melodies often overshadow these moments. At first I was a little skeptical of the whole acoustic/synthesizer formula, but The Apathy Eulogy somehow makes it all work. Despite the occasional pitfalls on Beauty For Ashes, it is a genuinely enjoyable release and while it may not be bringing anything new to the table, it is a fun release that I am sure will have fans of this genre singing along and using any number of these songs on their next mix CD.
