for me, it was underoath's they're only chasing safety. i would not like screaming if i never heard this cd. but thanks to this, i'm now able to enjoy bands like the chariot, botch and whatever.

oddly enough, now that i think about it, it was probably limp bizkit's $3 bill cd or sevendust's first cd.... which transitioned into deftones.... which transitioned into poison the well's opposite of december, which was probably the first "hardcore" cd i liked.... but i only listened to it on rare occasions....
i'd say finch, thursday, and boysetsfire were the first bands that i would listen to on a regular basis, which lead me into pretty much listening to only hardcore music....

They're Only Chasing Safety was the first CD I listened to where I actually enjoyed the screaming. Before that CD, I couldn't stand it.

glassjaw - eyewtkas got me into "screamo" and "hardcore" and whatever bullshit subgenres branch out from that, but the bands that got me into heavy music and eventually led to me discovering glassjaw was korn and limp bizkit or something.

Finch-What it is To Burn. That was right in the middle of my drive-thru craze.
Underoath/Chasing Safety is probably my favorite though.
I'm not too big into the genre anymore though.

Gradually builded from Chevelle (Wonder What's Next) / Trust Co. (The Lonely Position of Neutral) -> Finch (What it is to Burn) + AFI (Sing the Sorrow).
Then I started listening to like Silverstein, Senses Fail, Stutterfly, etc.
AFI's Sing The Sorrow, Finch's Say Hello to Sunshine, and Underoath's TOCS.
with all the UO TOCS love, I guess its not as bad as peeps say it was?
I might have to but it out later tonight.

At the Drive-In -- In/Casino/Out for my serious answer.
My best friend's older brother picked it up and burned it for us around '99. Granted the vocals aren't screams as much as Cedric yelling at the height of the song. It really turned me on to Post-Hardcore in general, which as we are all quite aware of, has much screaming vocals.
