View Full Version : Top 5 Musicians You've Seen Live

Pretty simple: A list of the first most talented people you've seen in concert. The first person to post a band will be gang-raped. Feel free to list band members, just not an entire band (unless of course, you list them all separately).

1) Chris Thile (Nickel Creek)
2) Andrew Bird
3) Owen Pallett (Final Fantasy)
4) Brian Chase (Yeah Yeah Yeahs)
5) Tori Amos

All five have amazing ears and a sense of music that is beyond word. Whether it's their damn near perfect sence of rhythm (1-4) or their impeccable ear (1 & 5), these five are the most talented people I've ever witnessed with my eyes.

I haven't seen too many musicians live, but:

Zakk Wylde (repetitive, I know, but still talented, Black Label Society & Ozzy Osbourne Band)
Eden Espinosa (Elphaba of Wicked, amazing singer)
Chris Adler (Lamb of God)
Against Me! (self-explanatory)

can't think of a 5th right now.

All the people in BTBAM and also the guitarist in a band called Tangaroa.

And Jenny Lewis vocally.

BTBAM is so great live. even people who didnt like them before are digging their new album.

Ben Harper - One of the best vocalists I've heard live, such a soulful voice. His guitar playing, especially slide, is incredible.
Matt Embree - Very humbling to see this man play, talented guitarist and vocalist and frontman of a great live band.
Sting - I enjoy The Police, but I didn't not expect to be so impresseed. Only after seeing him live do I get the acclaim. Solid bassist and fantastic vocalist.
Ahmir '?uestlove' Thompson - Saw him play with both The Roots, and perhaps more impressively with the Philadelphia Experiment. Great drummer.
Gabriela Quintero - Very impressive gutiarist, both she and Rodrigo play acoustic unlike anything I've ever seen.

honorable mentions to Stewart Copeland(The Police), John Paul Jones(Led Zep), Chris Tasgakis(Rx Bandits), and Robert Walter(Stanton Moore Trio).

why does everyone think he's a good singer? he writes great lyrics and shows alot of emotion, but his voice sucks.

i guess you can sing every note out of key, but you're still the shit if you put emotion in to it? fuck that. that doesn't make him a good singer. that just makes him a melodramatic songwriter.

it was just shambles. I got to the stage in the middle of there set cause they went on first that day, there were sound problems and all the jazz. it was BAD.

I was more than expecting to walk out of the Brand New show based on how much shit everyone gives Jesse. Um - I think we're hearing different bands. He fucking rocks on cd and live. So awesome.

He was actually good when I saw him, and I only saw him on the Dashboard tour when apparently they were not very good.

I think that they have good days and bad days, and aren't a consistent live band at all.
