View Full Version : Why Canada Sucks

I'm Canadian, but I might as well be american since I'm from Alberta and we do everything the same, from our political views right down to our money making skills...but frankly, I despise every single part of canada that isn't western. Why? Well, if you even care, check out some of this assorted crap!
- In Alberta we pay $1004 a person yearlyin equalization payments to JUST Newfoundland. What does that mean? It means because Newfoundland is poor, we have to subsudise for them by paying from our own wallets. We pay for them to be unemployed, sit at home....it's almost as bad as the next situation.
-The Natives. I'm not racist, but it's hard to like these folks when we pay tons and tons to them simply because of ancient treaties for land and stuff. We pay for them to sit at home, drink beer, and ruin their crappy little reserves with graffiti, as well as invade our downtown area to harass little children and rape people.
- Quebec...they put out simple plan. Need I say more?
Yes, I need say more. They are little whiny whores who want to seperate, and our government bends over backwards giving them special rights and benefits just so they won't.
-We have a pussy left wing government who is more interested in being neutral than taking a stand in any situation. And even if we wanted to, we couldn't, thanks to our complete and total lack of military.
Canada is pathetic, spare Alberta. It's no wonder people make fun of us.

However....
you guys have legalized weed, something I'm ashamed our country doesn't have. And not just because I like smoking....I go to USC and heard our head law professor in a debate a couple weeks ago speak on the subject, and it just doesnt make sense. The fact that alcohol is legal and marijuana isn't is embarrasing.
Milonater
10/05/03, 08:01 AM
Legalized weed is pathetic, we only have it legalized to a certain amount of grams - and I'm not a drug user, but I know for fact you can barely catch a high off of it.
Just what canada needs more of - stupid pot heads...not exactly.

Not likely, I wouldn't move to the U.S.A. simply for a few reasons
-although my government DOES really make canada suck, the place I live is second to none. Here in Alberta we get the best of anything, your bustling city life, your malls, your nature life out and about with the good ol' cows, the local steak, the skateboard and snowboard seasons, the complete lack of natural phenomenon (no hurrianes here baby!)...
And the people are nicer, judging by how I am constantly treated baly in the states.

Canada is superior to the US in most ways. The fact that half of your votes went to George Bush, is reason enough. Then you can tack on other blemishes like the war on drugs, not finding weapons in Iraq, obesity and such.

I started this thread many many days ago.
As a Canadian, I love Canada, love it to pieces.
But to say it doesn't suck in one regard or another? Come now, let's not be silly.

Even tho this post might be worthless, I still think I deserve to put in my two cents considering that I live in Canada.
I think Canada is the best country. Period. Why? Well, because I live here. And, even tho we are heavily influenced by the U.S through media, government, etc., etc., I still think we have our own way of doing things. Don't ask me why ... we just do. When Canada was in the Olympics for hockey, when they were playing during school hours everybody would skip and be in the canteen watching the game, and the teachers wouldn't care, they'd be watching with us. Back in my parents day (1977 summit series) the same thing was going on. Maybe it's the same for the U.S in some aspect, I wouldn't know. I love Canada. I love hockey, our nation's sport (well, one of them). I love snow. I love living where the population is not over-crowded.
But to say it doesn't suck in one regard or another? Come now, let's not be silly.
Yes, in one way or another, it does suck. Big bands only come to two or three cities on their tour, ex. Taking Back Sunday is only coming to Vancouver and Toronto, how much does that suck? Our country is controlled by Ontario, that sucks, and our Prime Minister is French. Now I have nothing about French people, don't get me wrong, but I still think it is wrong to have a french Prime Minister in an Anglo-American country ... especially when only like 1/5 of the population is french.
jgirv17
11/14/03, 03:19 PM
I know this doesn't have a ton to do with the thread, but I don't want to clutter up the General forum with another pointless one.
Anyway, since we are talking about Canada....where in Montreal is worth going? A few friend and I are planning on heading up there fairly soon, and I wanted to know what there was around the area besides some of the obvious things.
Think of this as a "Canada does NOT suck" post in order for this to fit in the context.

But it certainly has become a problem, not with the entire race, just those who chose to use their government checks irresponsibly.

11/18/03, 04:52 PM
Canada is divided betweed east and west. that's just the way it is. most people generalize all Canadians the same, but I think being from the west you have a completly different view than someone from the east.
Milonater
11/18/03, 07:24 PM
Welcome to the basics of Canadian politics - the west is smarter, eyt alienated, the east is more pacisifistic yet less responsible and lacks principle, yet it controls Canada due to sheer numbers, a crippled senate, and a brainless party in power. The government is controlled by those with money (you wouldn't BELIEVE what goes on at an udnerground level), and those who would change the party who are within it dare not speak up, they have to please the big dogs. the west gets milked for cash, while Quebec takes all it can get using empty threats and flaws in our constitution.
And despite this, Canada is still a wonderful place, for those who would be ignorant of it's huge problems.

Why does everyone hate french canadian? I am one. And i'm really proud of it. I don't hate any other Canadian states. Is it a question of language? Then why? And if it's about politic... hey, i like americans, and i hate Bush.

Milonater
11/21/03, 06:26 PM
Canadian States?
There's my first beef - undereducation. They're called provinces.
The west doesn't like the east because you're a bunch of namy pamby liberals who elect brain dead politicians time after time and always win due to sheer size of your provinces.
After that, there's your "we're so special give us special rights or we'll seperate boo hooo hoo long live france long live french!"
You aren't special. Stop demanding things.
I don't hate french Canadians. I hate the general eastern population for the way it thinks.
gayasoco
11/21/03, 06:50 PM
Undereducation? English isn't my first language. But i apologize for my mistake. Anyway, i have to say that you're right, we elect dumb politicians, it makes me sick; but they're all dumb. What can we do about this?
And some people want to separate Québec from the Canada. But not everybody, remember that when we vote for "if we'll separate us from the other provinces" the "no" won.
I live in Québec, and most of the people don't think as you think they do.
Milonater
11/21/03, 07:51 PM
I realize quite fully that the only true idiotic french canadians are the ones in power, and who have the loudest voices. I don' hate all french canadians, just the stupid ones.
The "no" won by a 1-2% margin.

First of all to the person who said that they think it is stupid that a french canadian is Prime Minister is stupid. Jean Chretien is not a seperatist he's not particularely pro-Quebec either, he's simply pro Canada, don't you remember the 1995 referendum? Jean Chretien fought hard to keep Canada together. Since that time the seperatist movement has basically died and in fact very few french canadians today actually want to seperate. Secondly personally I don't think that the Liberal party is stupid. When you compare the last 10 years of Liberal rule to that of Brian Mulroney it's pretty hard to make the case that we're worse off now. Canada's economic growth in recent years and fiscal responsibilty has been #1 of all G8 nations. This destroys the myth of Canada as taxing and spending too much and being "socialist". Canada takes strong principled stands that are in line with our populations values. We stayed out of Iraq because there was no UN involvement and because the majority of Canadians supported that opinion. Canada is also the leading contributor of International troops in Afghanistan at the moment, in fact there are more Canadian troops in Afghanistan then American troops. While Canada's military is small, it is well trained and active all around the world. Most Canadians are hardworking and as some would have you believe we don't sit around and drink beer and rape people. Canada is a great place to live and the west, well only Alberta is mad because their failed neoconservative politicians do not represent traditional Canadian progressive values at this time.

Are you serious? actually most of the movie is true, though yes there are a few "bent" facts, but where can you turn for an unbiased opinion these days.
Once again i repeat most of this movie is pure fact, thanks for comming out.
Also two more things to say;
One is that we (western civilization) f'ed over the natives in both america and canada, so we have no right to complain about them.
second why does everyone complain about the french? Remember that little war where america tried to gain its freedom from the brittish? Remember how you wouldn't of won with out the french? No, fair enough.

not to start a whole french bashing thread, but, yes the french help us win independence, and then we returned the favor when they overthrew their king. and then we bailed them out of wwI. and then bailed them out of wwII. and technically, we bailed them out of vietnam as well. i think our debt has more than been repaid.

Rant about generalizations and racism all you want, but broad obvious trends don't lie. Sure there are Native Americans who have made something of themselves and become valuable to society. But the sad fact is that the majority of the money that goes to Native Americans goes to the people that Milonator so conveniently described for us. What's even worse is that they don't deserve compensation because it happened SO FUCKING LONG AGO that no Native American alive today remembers living in this continent before it was torn away from them by the evil White Man. Seriously, if they think they would have been better off if the whites hadn't come over here, they can go live in the wilderness in a fucking igloo and spear fishes out of the ice rivers all they want. Sure it has lots entertainment value... simply because it's so ridiculous that it's laughable. Michael Moore knows how to manipulate his audience into believing his extremist left-wing bullshit. "Oh, K-Mart, please take these bullets out of your store because this kid has some inside of him!" I suppose if the kids who attacked Columbine had used K-Mart's kitchen knives, Moore would've asked for them to stop selling THOSE too.
I also want to say that every country has its bullshit, but I'm proud to say that I live in a nation where our leader is strong-willed and decisive enough to push through with what he believes in, even at the risk of alienating the rest of the entire world; instead of a leader who can't do shit because he's got his hands tied with "Political Correctness". I don't agree with every move that Bush makes, but I have to take my hat off to him for doing what he believes in.

i remember a few days after 9/11 a canadian journalist wrote an editorial about how the world should be willing to help america and that america has done a lot for the world and has seldom asked for assistance in anyway. it was very good, but i haven't been able to find it anywhere since then, and i have no idea who wrote it. it was posted all over the dorms at my school. also, i remember when the war in iraq started and there were a few hockey games being played in canada and the fans there booed the Star Spangled Banner (ignoring the fact that many of the players on their canadian teams were americans) and the hockey night in canada guy, Don Cherry got into a huge arguement with another sportscaster about how disgusted he was to be a canadian that night.

i honestly don't think so, but i could be wrong. i never heard about it, and it was fairly big news around here, partley because the junior hockey team went to a tournament that same weekend and were booed. booing kids at a sporting event based on the country they are from is pretty low. but again, i suppose the canadian national anthem could have been booed prior at a basketball game. i do know however, that at the bruins game the following night, (against he canucks i believe, but definatly a canadian team) the canadian national anthem got a standing ovation.
