Matchbook Romance=unoriginal

I was listening to the Matchbook Romance album recently and for starters I cant find one thing appealing about their music...but I noticed something and I want to see if anyone agrees with me or not.
On track#3 (I think it's called "Playing for keeps") the chorus sounds exactly like Taking Back Sundays "Cute without the E". When he sings "So are we playing for keeps..." the melody sounds exactly like "And will you tell all your friends...". The whole song sounds just like a combination of TBS and Brand New from Your favorite weapon regardless. But when I listen to that song I just cant overlook the fact that it rips TBS off so bad. Anyone else notice this?

I thought the new album was amazing but then again I'm a huge Taking Back Sunday and Brand New fan also...

I think Matchbook Romance sucks.... they're boring, generic, and unoriginal.

well i like matchbook romance, although there not going out on a limb for any new kind of music style there still good and i think if you cant support a local chicago band you should go to hell....but thats just me

i agree, it sounds exactly like tbs there, in fact when i first got the cd, the second time through listening to it i starting singing, and so you tell all your friends, or whatever it is. i like that song becuase of the breakdown.

Well, I liked the new album because I thought the lyrics were written so well. I could relate to a lot of the songs, so that's a bonus there too. However, the beginning of "playing for keeps" sounds like a thrice song, and yes the chorus sounds like TBS. Doesn't make it any worse, they still write great. "Tigerlilly" is such a touching song.

Yes, that entire song sounds like a TBS/BN clone. I can go on about how unoriginal they are but still listen to them. I'm weird like that.

i absolutely love the matchbook romance debut. its so wicked. one of my favourite releases of the year. good fucking band.

I came into this thinking everybody was gonna be talking about how that album basically cookie cuts the armor for sleep album... like when i listen to both of them they're basically the same.... same kind of like mechanics and shit... basically they both follow the same formula with the way the intro and fast and slow and acoustic and whatnot songs are laid in the tracklisting...

I dont notice any big difference between the armor for sleep album.. matchbook romance or story of the year cds... just that armor for sleep did the best job on sounding good....

p.s.... im lazy and would rather not listen to any of those bands instead of thrice... so no i didnt go and do any huge prepost research or song/cd tracklisting anaylsis or anything...

I don't see a Thrice or AFS relation at all. AFS doesn't really try to sound heavy, and Thrice ...IDK I just don't see it. I see some SOTY relation, as they both experience with the trendy "nu emo" sound, using screams for punctuation.

It's really just the beginning verses of "playing for keeps". But it's so noticible......

I hear that a little bit too...just the opening scream I guess...I think this band sucks though. So generic and shitty...I will admit I used to like them when they were called Taking Back Sunday...What? That's not the same band? Oops...

It's even in the chords though. I don't really mind the unoriginality, I like the way the lyrics are presented. So beautiful.......

That was clever how you took the same joke I used and tried to use it against me. haha yer a comedic wizard. But to be honest with you I am quite funny. I was encouraged to do stand up comedy by my peers so I did a few amateur gigs and got a few laughs.

i understand where you are comming from but i love matchbook romance... i mean i really dont think that they listened to tbs and brand new and said well hey lets make it sound like that... i mean sometimes that kind of stuff happens... i really find matchbook appealing.
