hey politically minded users of ap. so i've been tasked for work to frame the arguments of the internet tax and in an attempt to gain an idea of how it would impact the average user/entrepreneur/etc i figured i'd post here where most people are to say the least internet savvy. any insight as to the pitfalls etc or maybe upsides you could see would be tremendously helpful. im not asking you all to do the research for me or anything like that i'd just like to be prepared for all angles/questions/perspectives that could be thrown at me in the future.
Thanks

I assume she means taxing things that you sell online like ebay. right now the only fees you pay are to ebay and paypal if you use paypal. but you are not taxed and you don't have to claim it.

That would blow. However looking at it from a government stand point it could make a ton of money rather quickly. I just do not know how they could figure out how much to tax without a huge uprising from the general public.

true but i'm thinking of the impact it could have on small businesses and nonprofits who use it as a grassroots effort. maybe some form of exemption? i'm throwing things out there to try and feel out potential arguments etc.

If they kept it to a business only thing, and protected small business then yeah I could see something like this being plausible. However, if they were to move into households etc.. I don't think it would ever make it through Congress.

No offensem its a good topic, but the arguments are predictable as well as the information provided to support the arguments.

it's not my choice haha. i got thrown onto this topic at work yesterday and so i wanted to make sure i was thinking from all perspectives before i came up with my proposal. and while i'm open minded, im a firm believer that others will challenge your thoughts and open up new ideas, so that's why i posted about it.

Well my opinion, hopefully this can somehow aid your proposal, is that the government is squandering enough money on useless shit everyday. A public tax is completely ludicrous and taxing small businesses is grounds for insanity. Small businesses get shit on enough. The larger corps. shouldn't be taxed but if one is instituted I hope they go first.
