am i the only sleep deprived zombie here? i seriously need some help. i haven't slept for more than 4 hours a night for the last month and a half. the bags under my eyes are getting so big they're going to be forming their own zip codes soon.
so lie to me and make me feel better.. and tell me i'm not the only insomniac on this forum. and if you have any advice to offer.. please do. unless it's "take nyquil/benedryl/etc." because all i have to say is, been there, done that, habit formed.. no thanks.

Hey, fellow insomniac!
No i'm not lying, I've never slept well. Even as a young kid. But I'm 16 now and I usually get 3-4 hours sleep a night, however sometimes I get even less. But i'm kinda used to it now.
Sometimes it works to not fight it. What I mean by this, is when you're in bed and you can't get to sleep or whatever, get up .. get a drink of water, read a book. Watch television as long as it doesn't hurt your eyes. Do something. I play guitar and read .. but that's just me. Try different things, and do whatever you choose for about 20-30 minutes, or less .. whatever you can stand. And then go back to bed. You may have to do this twice in one night, but it still sometimes works. So you could give that a go. It's worked for me on occasions.
Obvious, but needs to be said - don't have caffiene at all after about 6pm. No coffee, cola .. even tea, even though that doesn't have caffiene in it .. i've also heard that you should stay away from tea if you're having sleeping troubles. Drink water, fruit juice, or milk (not together, for the love of god). And also don't eat a lot of sugary stuff in the evening. This could also effect your body before you sleep.
Make sure you're comfy .. 1 pillow or 2 pillows .. that kinda thing. Just in case you're not getting to sleep because you're even the slightest bit uncomfy. Makes sense ..
The time you go to bed can have a big effect on your sleeping patterns .. you should try going to sleep at EXACTLY the same time every night, and waking up at the same time too. This way your body gets into it's own kinda routine. And don't go to bed too late!
That's about it .. hope something here helps. It's like 2am where I am now .. if all else fails, absolutepunk.net forums are still here .. hahaha
Good luck. Bye! xoxo

I feel ya. I don't get much sleep either...but its mostly because I like being up at night.

I go throught spurts of insomnia (if you can even call it that). For about a week every couple of months I can't sleep at night. I get maybe 2-4 hours. In my case, I go downstairs, lay on the couch and watch tv. I have a tv in my room, but just being somewhere other than my own bed helps. Sometimes I listen to this top 40 adult contemporary station. I don't like the music much but I can stand it. I dont want to stay up and listen, but its just enough to take my mind off trying to sleep. The moment I forget about not being able to sleep is the moment I fall asleep. I refuse to take nyquil too. I used to, and after awhile I felt like I couldnt sleep well without it.

My bodies clock is so messed up. I cannot get to sleep any earlier than 2:30 am. Usually later than that too. 4 hours of sleep is a good night for me. Even if I have to be up at 6am I still go to sleep around 3 or so. It sucks...Ive tried plenty of over the counter sleeping aids but they suck. Prescription Ambien works well but I dont have a prescription for it unfortunately. I feel you

ok, it's a problem. i know exactly what you're talking about because for such a long time i could never sleep... i'd toss and turn and think about shit and i just couldn't sleep because my mind was over active... i've kind of solved that problem though now. there are still some nights, but for the most part i've got it under control. the trick is to try to turn off your brain. stop thinking and just concentrate on sleeping. try not to move either, because it's easier to fall asleep if you just sit still. another thing: i have tried nyquil and all that shit and it DOESN'T work for me either. all my friends seem to live by it, but it only makes me more wired. i've found that drinking makes me really tired.. as horrible as that sounds. and pot. yeah, it's probably not the best idea, but it makes ME really really tired.. and i always find it easier to fall asleep after. and hey if some people rely on drugs to be happy with their life, why can't others rely on them to sleep? ok have fun.

alcohol works great. people always complain about hangovers and shit, but when i wake up after getting wasted i always feel really refreshed and not tired at all.
