Poor Excuse

Why did Brand New slow down?.. damn Your Favorite Weapon was awesome and had tons of catchy melodies and jump-up-and-down choruses.
Deja Entendu just doesnt appeal to me.. sure theyre better songwriters now.. but every song sounds so slow and sad and emo.. SPEED IT UP BITCHES!!
rip songs like jude law and 70x7

Sometimes its necessary to switch it up a bit... I must concur, "Your Favorite Weapon" is my top pick as well.... Its very easy for a band to sound repetitious of their first album, so I think they did very well with Deja Entendu

i like the old cd better too but if they stayed the same a lot of people would be pissed like a lot were with the new thursday cd. a ton of people complained they just got the same thing over again. sometimes theres just no pleasing anyone

can't really be called a sell out if every album sounds the same.
it's when the bands totally change their sound, then become huge, that original fans call them sellouts.

I love them both the same. If I want a picker upper, something to rock to I listen to YFW, but if I want a slowr cd, a cd to fuck to (does anyone read AP? ;) ) I will listen to deja.
I've been giving Deja more rotation than Weapon though.

"Your Favorite Weapon" was a boring, mediocre pop-punk album. It was rather immature, and the only good track on it was "the No Seatbelt Song".
"Deja Entendu" seemed more original to me. And I just liked it a lot more. "Play Crack the Sky" is beautiful. Better song writting totally owns "catchy melodies". I mean.. come on. The SPICE GIRLS had catchy melodies, too.
.."Jude Law and a Semester Abroad" is probably one of the worst songs I've ever listened to. That's only opinion.. but.. really.
"So tell all the English boys you meet about the American boy back in the states, the American boy you used to date, who would do anything you say." Ehr. Yeah. Crappy lyrics can be a real turn off. Especially ones with such lousy rhymes.

They didn't slow down for the sake of popularity. Or at least, I don't think they did.
Their single "The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows" has a "Jude Law" feel to it (instumentally), and.. it's just not slow. And that's their popular song.
Most of the record's sound is just a little something called "growing up". Tastes and ideals change. Being stuck at one tone - either lyrically or instrumentally - for years is boring, anyway. Change is good.
..And if Brand New was still stuck on "Your Favorite Weapon", I'd personally worry about the members' mental ages. You can't be a little boy forever.

I was never too big on YFW...too poppy for me I guess. The lyrics were creative though thats the only thing I liked about it. Deja is alot better in my opinion but Im getting tired of that now too. They need to find a better medium I think. The next album should have some faster songs as well as slow ones. That way you can be in the mood to listen to it whether your depressed or craving something harder.

personally, i like brand new's lyrics, even though they might be about immature subjects...also, deja entendu is so far ahead of your favorite weapon musically, its ridiculous, except for 3 or 4 songs, yfw bores the hell out of me

Yeah well i really loved "your favorite weapon" too... it was a kick ass album but i also do really support Deja Entendu...
Your favorite weapon... has not been forgotten... at least to the brand new fans that have been loyal.
Deja Entendu.... is becomming such a bigger thing b.c. now their genre of music is beomming mainstream... just as it started becomming so "popular" Deja entendu was released. So many people jumped ontop of that... and when they started to be played on mtv2... wow that was another thing that made them snowball so much....
Brand new is amazing and i support them no matter what form of music they decide to try out. i still think they are really creative.

brand new is my favorite band. i loved your favorite weapon because it was just a really chill cd and every song on it was good. but i also liked deja entendu because its just really awesome emo. its a lot more emo than your favorite weapon and thats why i think its good. all the songs are pretty good and just about all of them have just the right amount of core to not make it boring.

add two parts emo, one part core, sprinkle on the ex-girlfriends, and add a pinch heart break. bake at 350 degrees and let stand for five min and then... vwa la! deja entendu

What exactly is "core" anyway?
As for YFW vs DE...I like them both equally. The lyrics are bitter on both albums. I like that.
