View Full Version : To Awake One Morning

Light comes streaming through the blinds
Rays of sunlight streaking across a powered face
Eyes not yet ready to be open, slowly do
One blink after another; still this light is too hard to handle

Leaves rustle in the trees outside
Swaying back and forth, in warm weather they don’t fall
The old tire swing hanging deep in the woods is gone
There’s nowhere to go anymore

We need to give ourselves a reason
We cannot hold our life in our fragile hands
Like water falling off rocks at rushing speeds
All going the same way down

Running in the vaguely stated dream we create
Or fail to create
In a blend of faded memories
And a blurriness seeping through every scene

You call out for that one last moment where everything feels…
…Infinite
Those brief seconds where they feel endless
This beauty, where you can only hope for it to never go away

The hope to provide ourselves with meaning
We need to know what is ours to embrace
Because only existing isn’t something we can keep
As we are all going the same way down

Once the light completely sets in, not just in its glimmering beams
Only then can you find your way out of bed
There is not another chance for the covers to drape over your head
It is time to sit up and take hold of this morning
